I've been recently wondering about whether or not to get a modchip, I already have my wii softmodded, and it runs backups fairly well. Are modchips really that big of step up? What are the differences between 3x and 6x speed? The only difference I see is that softmod backup launchers' loading times are usually a bit longer. Thanks in advance.

I have Wiikey and read backup 3x so for me just it's beta launcher but now if i buy a Wii i don't open for install chip

I reccomend softmodding, most chip-owners will reccomend chips.

Please do stop creating these threads, there's already dozens of them (And most even have the exact same title).

If you have spare cash, I really recommend you to install a modchip.

With modchip:
1)Run autoboot disc from health screen (avoids having a GC Pad just for rescue menu purposes)
2)6x speed so NFS will load fine
3)Gecko OS

Seriously though, you could have both of em (like me and dj). With that, you have maximum compatibility with games

Is there a list of which games only work with softmods ?

As for the question, I only have a chipped Wii (Wiikey) but then I have a version of the Wii which was relatively easy to chip. Nowadays, I might well have gone down the softmod route.

If you take a look on the "Backup Gamma incompatibility list" thread on the sticky section, those games work well on Wiis with modchip. BUT, without the Gamma 002 fix (Or patching the ISO then running it of SOFTMOD), even people with modchips won't be able to play NFS: U and those games that have the 002 protection.

So, as I said, having both would be better. Softmod is free, and you just got to top up a few bucks for a modchip.

Remember, MAXIMUM COMPATIBILITY.....

That's no big loss

But it does remind that I still haven't applied IOS55 to my Wii yet.

Yes maybe with softmod ONLY it's not that big loss. But with modchip ONLY it would be hard to play games that comes out in future if Nintendo applies the 002 protection completely.

What I just want to say is the good of having both. softmod is free, and for modchip, you just have to top up a few bucks.

best of both worlds.

If they added the data protection "inside" Wii Menu which they could with an update, then yeah modchips are fucked, but until that is "never" going to happen, LETS PLAY!
