Is it possible to change graphic PNGs like battle baloons with this? I'm having trouble exporting NDS or saving changes.

Both. I was trying to edit the balloon PNGs in Block Fort as proof of concept?

There aren't png files in mkds. In nsbmd/nsbtx files you can edit them.

Really? What's the "Import" button for when I click on a course and level and enter the nsbtx viewer?

Right, but how do I save my changes? And can I save over my NDS game file, or do I have to patch it or what? I'm sure I'm just a newbie, but I'm not really sure how this works.

Labatryth, you can import PNG files from your computer, but they are not stored as PNGs inside the ROM. The ROM uses the NSBTX format (among others). Whenever you export or import you are converting between the NSBTX format and the PNG format. PNGs can be edited in Photoshop or any other image editing software.

Okay, first if you want to edit a carc file in a nds rom you have to click right and export it. Then open it with my mkds course modifier. You can now edit things. If you open the nsbtx editor and edit something, you have to click the floppy icon to save. Then to save the carc perss the floppy icon in the main window.You can reinsert in the rom to right click the file and choose replace.

Thanks Poryhack, I know that, but I am asking if I'm able to modify the images. When I try to apply my changes by hitting the save button in the NSBTX viewer, and hit save in the game file browser, it defaults back to the old game images again when I reopen the NSBTX to make sure my changes were applied.

Well I'm glad I asked! Though I'm not sure I should edit everything on screen in the baloons for battle, because now Block Fort won't load. Oh well, I'll figure it out! You don't think me a noob right?

The good news is I now know I was editing the right filename.

Thanks man! I'll look into it. I'm so happy someone is doing stuff for Mario Kart DS. I was so worried we'd never EVER get editors for this awesome game!
