Because if you go online with switch that is playing mig games you'll probably get banned quickly... if you go online with one switch only for update games i think nintendo is not saving cart id for telemetry... only saves it when you launch games (thats my theory).
So if you use one switch 2 for update mig games your probabilities of being banned are less than using it for updating and playing mig games.
I connected my Switch 2 only once to the Internet to get the first ever day 1 update and then never again.
Since then I'm using a MIG Flash v2 to play Switch 1 Games on it (first usage ever was with 1.2.2 Firmware)
Now I'm considering getting a Switch Lite to put the MIG Flash into it to update the games without starting them, and then transferring the updates to the Switch 2

The console is constantly collecting data even if you are offline. So even when you use the mig card offline, the switch 2 could detect that and send it to Nintendo next time you connected to the internet.

Not true the one after 1.2 fixed a bug that caused games to not load correctly when u pressed the button causing an error message about cart not being read.

One for online and only update games from mig and another one to use with mig 100% offline... the online switch im using it for updating games only and play my switch 2 games.

If the DLCs can be downloaded like a regular update (without opening the game), it might work. However, if they must be downloaded from inside the game after it's launched, I think it's too risky

Banning did occur during the initial wave. AFAIK since the new 1.2 mig updates it's safer. I still would not play online though (same as for switch 1). I reckon all this 2 switch thing to update is bunk and a waste of time personally.

You do download the DLCs from the eshop. You can download a dlc without opening the game, but i would guess that you can not transfer it to the offline switch, because the offline switch does not "own" the dlc so it won't be transfered.
i can not try it myself because i only have one switch 2. maybe you have a game where a free dlc is available? please try. i would be interested to hear if it works.

I have a Switch 2 (latest firmware) with a MigFlash (latest firmware) with about 30 dumped games on it. I have never put a real nintendo cartridge into my Switch 2 and i play online all the time with all the games loaded from the MigFlash. Mostly Splatoon 3. I am not banned since MigFlash firmware 1.2.0. There is no other reason than fear to stay offline if the games are clean.
Here is what gets you banned without any doubt:
- Inserting the MigFlash into the Switch 2 with a MigFlash firmware below 1.2.0.
- Updating the MigFlash from a firmware below 1.2.0 to a higher version on the Switch 2 also gets you banned, because you are technically inserting a MigFlash below 1.2.0 before the firmware gets updated.
- Playing torrented games or games you downloaded on the internet.
- Playing modified games.
- Playing games where the files got corrupted while copying to the sdcard (check that no files are missing, have the right size and the right names!).
After every Switch 2 firmware update i usually wait 2-3 days to confirm there is no new ban-wave and a MigFlash update is required.
If you follow these rules and dump your own games you will be fine.
PS: (Unpopular opinion) Dumping games from your local library is fine. I know. You do not get banned if 2-3 people play the same game with the same id at the same time. But if someone dumps the game from your library and uploads it online you definitively will be banned. A small risk to consider.

Am I correct in assuming that you can still use a Mig in Switch 2 for updating the games, and this can be done safely online, as long as you don't launch the game?
As long as you put the Switch 2 in Airplane Mode before launching the game?

Can I ask about two things:
1) Is it 100% certain there's no way to update the Mig Flash safely to 1.2.0 in a Switch 2, even in airplane mode? I don't have access to a Switch 1, so this matters.
