Project Spark, Microsoft's free to play game creation tool, is being canceled; it is no longer available to download on either Windows or Xbox One. People who already have the game downloaded will be able to use its online services until 8/12/16. This comes as part of Microsoft's shutting down of some of it's other "games as services", notably Lionhead Studios and Fable Legends. Microsoft also stated that the game moved out of active development last fall, and the developers have moved on to other projects.

Players who bought the game and its starter pack at retail will have the credits added back to their Microsoft accounts.

I don't recall anyone caring about the game when it was still a thing. And I don't think anyone is going to care about the game now.

It was revealed with some sort of Conker thing, which is the only reason anyone cared what it was.

I wasn't that impressed with project spark. The only things that were cool was team Dakotas remake of star wars episode 4 and a couple of other things by them that even the developers of the game couldnt figure out how they worked.

I'm confused... In the OP it's referred to as both a game creation tool and a game. The comments refer to it as a game, but talk about game creation.

    Which was it?

It was intended to be a mix of both. Think Super Mario Maker.

I remember this being the only game that interested me when the xbox one was announced. It's a shame I'll never get to experience it now.

To be honest I didn't know this was a thing until now, perhaps it was for the best.

I remember trying it when I first got it, but it was an incredibly steep learning curve at the time. I couldn't run it well on my old laptop, and I just stopped using it.

well, It doesn't surprise me, as WE (and I mean WE because at least I admit I am guilty of it too) tend to go for the familiar, recycled stuff instead of venturing to the unknown, innovative stuff that TAKES TIME to learn (in a society that demands everything fast).

it's a shame, it had potential but I also fell it wasn't promoted enough. I always though it was for Xbox one only but Now I know it was also for windows...o boy.

It had lots of potential but I don't think the developers themselves knew what they were doing with it, never mind anyone else - it's like they made a good world creation kit but got stuck at the 'what do we do now' bit, and there simply wasn't enough in there to let consumers run riot with like they can in the likes of Little Big Planet...

I think, like LBP, or of course the likes of Skyrim Workshop, these games actually need a game in there in the first place, and this didn't have one. Still, I remember enjoying it for a few minutes when it first came out - mainly because I had pretty much nowt else to play on the Xbox One at the time! Never touched it since..
