Microphone not working

Hi, my lad has been playing fortnite about a year with headphones. Maybe about a month ago the headphone mic stopped transmitting/his friends couldnt hear him. I went through all settings in the game. Seems fine. I assumed it was the headset. Bought him a new one. Seems exactly the same.

Are there any hidden settings he could have activated? I saw something about a mic test on google but cant find the option. Iv no clue if this is a hardware issue, could the jack be damaged?

Any thoughts on a fix?
