I am not talking about Symphony of the Night where it was just stat boosts with leveling and a bit of gear customization.

I am talking about a game that has all that and more (such as skill points and skill trees)

Imagine if you could spend some points to make an Ice Beam keep enemies frozen for longer or indefinitely, or make them more prone to certain attacks like explosive or other beam weapons.

What if you could make your beams charge faster or give the ability save up multiple charge shots?

What if missiles, super missiles, and super bombs could have their attack power or radius increased?

What if the missiles themselves could track or split into multiple?

Not to sound too negative, but...how exactly is what you're saying different from "stat boosts with leveling and a bit of gear customization" ?

What you're describing sounds exactly like Ori and the blind forest, dust: an elysian tail, insanely twisted shadow planet or rogue legacy to me (okay, the latter is a roguelike as well), and that's just from what I've played.

But these games are pretty good, so it was an instant "yes" for me. :)

It's been a while since I played Dust and I never played Ori and didn't recall skill points/trees being in ITPS.

Though I was thinking more along having an actual metroid game (or at least similar in gameplay) with these types of features.

Though thanks for telling me about Ori, I will have to definitely look into it now.

this is basically Aria of Sorrow... ._.

Actually Aria of Sorrow is more like an advanced version of Symphony of the Night. There are less equip options, but the is somewhat supplimented and improved upon with the soul system, though there are no skills/skill trees, so you couldn't upgrade the abilities (Though I think in Dawn if you get max souls of one type it does make the ability stronger, so maybe that counts???).

So basically Diablo2 in the world of Metroid or Castlevania?
I would dig that. But balancing the difficulty in a top-down/hordes of monsters/randomly generated game is much easier.
Doing such "improvements" would probably make the game only easier, not more fun in a Castlevania or Metroid game.
The good thing about Metroid or Metroidvanias is that they have a balanced difficulty no matter your equipment or level.
Sure it gets a tiny bit easier, but you could still very easily get killed by certain enemies.
I would love a true Metroid with rpg elements tho.

BTW did you play Mummy Demastered? (seems it was patch improved in February)

Last edited by Elrinth,
Have you ever heard of Monster Santuary? Its a Pokemon / Metroid kinda game. It might not be EXACTLY what you are looking for but interesting none-the-less.
