Hacking memory question

I read about the kingston 1/2gb japan sd cards being the only cards 100% compatible but I also see reviews using sdhc cards. I am planning on getting an acekard 2 so I was wondering if I should get a 2gb japan or 4gb sdhc.
I know this question has been asked before but I have heard of people using non japanese cards and having their acekard 2 die out after a few days of use so I just want to make sure.
