My ds (on life support) is not working with the official memory expansion pak. My ds has homebrew i dont know if that makes any difference. When I try to use it the apps just don’t recognize it… can I have help?

Are you running TWiLight Menu++ on your flashcard? If so, make sure the "Game Loader" setting is set to "Kernel" in the per-game settings menu.
