The Battle Network games were fun, but I don't really consider them to be part of the same series of games as X and the original MM. Complaining about them would be like saying Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games were the worst of both the Mario and Sonic series of games. They have the same characters, but MSaOG isn't a Mario OR a Sonic game.

Old man reporting in.

I've played all the megaman games, from 1 to now. Even beat the majority of them. 1 through 9 were all good games (although some are better than others). The X series was also excellent (although it kind of trailed off). Even the Z/ZX games were fun stuff. They're all done well, even when you weren't the Blue Bomber himself.

Even the experimentations of Battle Network turned out fun. There was just something fun about the strategy elements in those games. The "desk" building, the grid placement, etc. Although not a standard Megaman game by any means, they were enjoyable games.

But lately, Capcom seemed to be getting the Sonic Syndrome. They're expecting people to ride on the Megaman name, without putting forth the effort. The Starforce series is something that should have died faster than Legends did. Hell, Legends was more fun that Starforce. The grid is all but gone, and any strategy elements are pretty much dead. Without the Megaman aspect, what does that leave us? Nothing. A non-fun "game".

Capcom needs to be careful. They're resting on their laurels, so to speak. Although I wouldn't rate ZX as much fun as some of the older games, it's still a good thing. And I'd like to see them keep that up. Look at Konami and Castlevania. They experimented, and they had some flops, but they realized what worked, and what people wanted.

tl;dr version: Megaman games are awesome, but these new Starforce games suck. Go back to what you do best, Capcom.

That don't make any sense! You're just saying that Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games isn't compared to a Mario or a Sonic game which is correct. But it's known as a crossover sports game with just iconic characters. However, Battle Network series is a different category from MSaOG because 1) One deals with Action RPG while the other is a sports crossover game.

Well, the BN/SF series aren't really Mega Man games at all. They shouldn't have called'em "Mega Man" games. Eliminating that, I think they're fun games in their own way.

Mega Man, I agree, though, is taking a step towards the wrong direction. Sure, this generation has had ONE great "Mega Man" game, Mega Man 9, but that wasn't even developed by Capcom. Hell, none of these Mega Man games are developed by Capcom; I swear they're developed by Inti Creates or something. Sure, the ZX series is platforming, and it's fun, but I wish they'd just return to when you beat Robot Masters for weapons, and you fought other Robot Masters.

...except for the Battle Network series. Hrm, I don't know where I'm going with this at all.

I personally really liked the BN series but I can see that they are losing the charm that brought me in at first.I really miss the platforming MegaMan though.MM9 was really fun!

Hey! StarForce 3 wasn't as bad... But why call it "Megaman"!?
Why not "Star Police" or something like that!?
It involves stars and your pretty much doing DETECTIVE SHIT!!!

Megaman is all about strategy and puzzles if you people haven't noticed!
How do you get past Gutsman's stage? Jump and wait!
How do you kill Gutsman!? Throw the bomb at the right position!
How do you kill Dr.Wily?! Figure out his WEAKNESS
Battle Network was all about strategy and puzzles! It just doesn't have the fast-paced action gamers wanted!
Either that or they don't have the attention of an RPG gamer!

@off topic: i seem to miss more for Capcom's street fighter game...(doesn't seem to have 1 for a DS)
including marvel vs capcom

@topic: megaman X series r great as they r easier than Zero n ZX series....

....loved the X5 theme song...

What ever happened to the good megaman type games. The sidescrollers with X and eventually Zero. Why did it change to this battle network crap. Even the MegamanZX and ZXadvent isnt really the same. The starforce series/battle network series are ok. and the ZX ones were decent. but they arnt as good as the original stuff. I wish they would make a megaman game like the original ones for the ds

Your logic. It hurts me.

You could always use NESDS to play the old megaman games. (1-3)
Or an EZFlash3in1 to play the Zero games.

As for no good new ones coming out... look around you

When's the last time a good zelda/mario/metroid came out that was just like the old ones?

it's almost like asking wat ever happened to sonic the hedgehog. none of those games passed the second one on the dreamcast have been any good..and theres been a lot of them. i'd say megaman has more potential to put out a more acclaimed and popular game among fans than sonic at this point. sega has taken a huge crap on that franchise =(

The advance series (gba) and rush series (nds) aren't bad

Or 4-6 as well

or how about using snesds and also playing megaman 7 and x (they normally work right)

You could also play megaman and bass the gba game

TLOZ: Minnish cap (GBA): 4 years ago
New Super Mario Bros (DS): 3 years ago
Metroid: Zero Mission (GBA): 5 years ago

Hey, the SF series was great(but BN was better). And I love the pokementality of the games mentioned. Sure there are no finger bleeding side scrolling action, and the story is sometimes cliched and predictable. But why does capcom continue to produce games like these? The same reason Nintendo keep bringing Pokemon to our consoles. Japanese people love to collect. They collect models, figures DVDs, special edition of the silliest games you could never imagine. And we all know that Capcom/Nintendo are japanese companies, so why focus on pleasing the whole world when they can easily be successful in one country where almost half of the gaming market is.

I want games with a challange, Mega Man 9 gave some pretty nice challange. It was awesome. Just finished it the other day at a friends Ps3.

I also have it on my Ps3 but just haven't taken the proper time to play it.

Anyways, I love Megaman 1,2,3,4,5,6,9 to the bottom of my heart. 5 and 6 are the weaker ones of those, but I still love them. After that there's Megaman X and then X4. After those there's ZX and ZX Advent.

I didn't really play the latter X5,6,7,8 because I didn't own a playstations console since only recently.
The Z series is awesome, but it's alittle difficult, but not much harder than Megaman 1

The EXE/Battle Network series is a totally different gameplay which feels rather lame and it's not as well executed as the main games for some reason. Most of the music in this series sucks ass too...

The gamecube title Megaman Network Transmission was awesome, the first boss stage (Fireman) just totally blew me away and gave me the motivation to finish the game. It uses similar chip-weapon system like the EXE/Battle Network series but since it's sidescrolling gameplay it's all forgivable, and this game has some really good songs. It's a pretty challenging game too, especially the end, even tho you've powered up quite alot, the skill and predictability needs to be in your hands.

Megaman Legends actually was pretty cool on the PS1/N64, but in the end the sidescrollers are just so much more fun.

The Arcade Fighters are actually pretty fun, but the lastability isn't long. They also feature an amazing soundtrack.

I haven't played the football game, so I can't really say anything about it. But it seems to have a decent soundtrack.

Capcom still has me hooked. Resident Evil 4 is an awesome game, I'm looking forwards to the fifth installment even tho I haven't finished the fourth which like has one of the most awesome feelings I've had in a game in a long time.
I love Street Fighter 2 and I'm really looking forward to Street Fighter 4. I preordered the collecters edition. 80 euro.
The Legend of Zelda game for GBA was a blast (The Minish Cap) and supposedly when the GBC games are too.

To be honest, Capcom is probably the most solid game company I can think of.

I really want to see a sequal for ZX series...

but StarForce series really piss me off, its not Rockman Anymore, its call "Another Rockman for Kids", which include a brainless storyline with kids style tactical strategy game...

overall, The only title I really hope to see is the series that will be between X and Z series, inside this timeline seem to be very interesting about X, and how Z seal himself away.....

One thing that always makes me sad about the Battle Network/Starforce series is how they remind me so much of Breath of Fire for some reason. I am inclined to believe that many people who worked on those games, also worked on this series. The character designs, and maps look VERY similar too. So, couldn't they just skip a Starforce, and give us BOF VI for the DS? Oh well, they said recently there wouldn't be another one, so probably not.

Sorry if this is kinda OT, but it just popped into my mind.

The only actuall Megaman games that should be made is a MMX9 (to tie up the end of MMX8) and a MM10/Prequel MMX because there is SOO much that could be explained about zero and willy. Also the zero series kinda sucked with the whole pansy looking armor, also with the general level design and upgrade system the game overall wasnt very good.

As for the Starforce series, the gameplay itself is good, I like the originality in the battle system. What I dont like is the story, very very predictable. The Battle Network series was good but again the story affected it horribly.

Idk, I'd love to see another Megaman and Bass for the DS except this time it ties up the end of X8 or the beginning of X4. Capcom left alot of holes in their megaman games, Zero being a large one.

ALSO for a side note the whole "Zero loves ciel" thing wont happen because Zero wont love after he lost Iris (for those who played X4) and SHES A HUMAN HES A REPLOID IT WONT WORK SHE WOULD DIE HE WOULDNT!!!

You know I figured I should do a little standing up for the mini-side series of games, but Megaman 64(Legend) was a good game. Then again I went into it knowing it was just an adventure platformer with an interesting story that had nothing really to do with megaman other than a passing look and the boomstick for a hand. The game was/is quite refreshing and a change, but in no means is it megaman nor of the level of challenge of the original series. I'm surprised no one here really much seems to like it as it wasn't a bad game.

I want one Megaman and one Zero >.<

how many megamen are there anyway? What about megawomen? discrimination! I just played as a megawoman 3 minutes ago! In ZX Advent, heh...

Off-topic:
X and Zero faced the sad fate of being a finished series, something that should happen, yet Final Fantasy series still goes on, something that shouldn't happen. I mean, how many times you'll say "Final"? It's okay to have lotsa fantasies, but really, make up your mind!

X and Zero should be like Doraemon, always facing problems, never to disappear... sadly, those crappy Bio-Metals, Starforces and Viruses wept them away.

Oh, please! Gimme back my old-move-it-and-whack-it-dammit! gameplay!

I really enjoyed the Zero games, especially because of the ex. skills, and elements, and what not.
