PSP Shit

Seriously you need wi-fi, this thing is completely useless and a waste, bad business decision, inappropriate cost cutting, and obviously too late.

ABSOLUTE FAIL!!!!

May Keas take a dump on this idea.

In over 5 years of PSP ownership, across all the models bar the 3000, i have NEVER used wifi for anything other than a brief play with IRShell and remote controlling TV's. You might need Wifi but you're in the minority if it's a failure not to have it.

Controlling TV would be IR, not WiFi. IR was present in the PSP-1000 and cut from all future models as it had no official use.

But yes, WiFi is not essential for PSP (although personally I find it quite useful for checking some sites when I couldn't be bothered turning on my laptop)

With the Vita just around the corner, I couldn't see myself paying for this. I don't know this seems a bit pointless; a price drop on one of the other models of the PSP would probably have been enough to snag any last minute adopters.

To be honest I've never used the WiFi on my PSP Lite all that much. If I wanted to browse the web, I'd use my smartphone and data plan.

All I used it for was for ad-hoc party, but then people stopped playing, so fuck :/

Lack of WiFi wouldn't prevent PSN purchases. The MediaGo software has the PSN Shop in it also.

If something like this is released in the $75-99 range in the US that would be pretty nice IMO. So long as CFW works the same.
PSP 3000 is already only $129.99 for the core pack (I recently got one). Putting a PSP in the same price range as DS Lite would be a good way to push out more product & PSP games before Vita launches.

Ehh, PSP is dead IMO. You don't see very many big releases here in the US for it anymore. I actually sold mine for funds for a 360 a while back and only got like $40 for it (and it was in perfect condition, too).

A Wifi-less version won't be to popular either, despite the lowish price. Oh well, I don't think Sony will really lose much here so...it's all good.

"nothing changes but the name.." Does this go hand in hand with the PSP Go in terms of naming?

-Qtis
Whats the point of putting your username at the end of your post?

Pretty stupid
It's called a "signature". You know, from back in the day when gentlemen and ladies used to write letters by hand, not nowadays where "y u so gay???" is considered an acceptable method of communication, and where people call out other people's actions and call them stupid in public.

Nothing I just find it a useless and stupid thing to do
Would you like everybody to tell you when you do something they find stupid and useless?

Seriously you need wi-fi
No you don't?
I've only used Wi-Fi maybe once or twice to check Phantasy Star Portable 2 online out and to play Gods Eater Burst on Ad Hoc Party.

The price for this is nice and the target audience won't really care; seriously the heading says "My First PSP"
I use the youtube viewer regularly, and use it as an emergency web browser (for example looking up a guide for a game I'm playing).

Of course, the youtube viewer is homebrew and I mostly play via emulators, so I'm obviously not the target audience.

Looks like a piece of garbage, fake version of the PSP.

Who would want to buy that?
At the right price, plenty of people. If this was cheaper than a brand new or even refurbished DS Lite, it could definitely be marketed with more focus on the media playback capabilities, extended battery option, and the fact it plays some pretty good games (without online/multiplayer). Plus it would help to continue selling PSP accessories and MS PRO Duo products for probably another an extra year overlapping with Vita's launch/distribution.

A few years ago I spent $130 on a Sony Walkman portable device that has a tiny color screen but did actually support mp4/AVC video playback (though only a lower-bitrate variant from the PSP standard mp4 format). I got it for that and music playback.
Now I have a PSP which I'd bought for the same price as what I originally paid for the little walkman unit, but with an extended battery that offers twice as much video playback time on a bigger screen and I really like that.

edit: rephrase, since I'm sure they already intended to overlap PSP for at least a year.

So I had a brief hands-on experience with the portable... I thought I should tell you guys about the experience.

Build Quality - *Suprisingly Bad* are the words I'd describe it with. Unlike the in the previous models, the MS Pro Duo slot has absolutely no cover. Moreover, the console is not bundled with the standard 32Mb card, thus the slot is exposed to dust. The paint job is less than pleasant. I assumed that having it matte will be better since the shiny plastic was a true fingerprint magnet, but *this one* feels like it's about to fall appart. Although it "seems" to be screwed together correctly and hasn't got any gaps where pieces connect, the connections are quite apparent since there is no silver "bind" like in the previous models. The UMD dock is quite nasty. No OPEN button like in the 1000 models, but it's much wider than the 2000+ models aswell, and combined with the "bad quality" of plastic it really feels as if you're going to rip the dock's lid off eventually. In fact, I opened it *once* and it was an unpleasant experience already - I was immediatelly worried that I broke something, but no, it REALLY opens in such a nasty fashion. The shoulder buttons are another story. I can understand tactile response, but the buttons presses are *really* audible, to the point of being an annoyance to people around you. Maybe it was because the handheld was brand-new, but I doubt it. The only "positive" thing I have to say about the E1000 is the re-vamped Volume, Home, Start and Select buttons - these feel really nice and give the old handheld a quite modern look. Unfortunatelly that modern look is spoiled by the fact that the console is *fat*, I'm not sure if it isn't fatter than the original 1000. It's also worth to note that the USB slot is not *dead center* as to allow connecting a camera and having it face you - which is understandable as you can only take pictures rather than use its built-in mic for Skype, but just looks unsymmetrical. I also forgot to mention that the MS Pro Duo slot is, curiously, on the top-side of the console. If you get caught in the rain with your PSP, it's very likely that moisture will drip right into it. Hey, it happens! I also *hate* the speaker holes, they literally look as if someone took a drill and drilled a few holes in the face of the console.

Hardware and Software - Obviously the console is missing WiFi, of which the unfortunate purchaser of the console did not know (one of my classmates at Uni), obviously it also lacks the built-in microphone. Not that you'd need it if you can't use AdHoc or Skype. The handheld was running the 6.60 Kernel (stock) and I noticed no changes other than the (obvious) lack of functions related to WiFi. Upon demanding Gamesharing connection on any game that supports it, the console informed me that I should flip the WiFi switch to the "ON" position, I found that quite humorous and wondered as to why Sony didn't implement a built-in system notification that such connectivity is impossible on this particular model. Battery is built-in, there isn't much to say about that other than... it doesn't keep its charge as much as you'd want to, unless my classmate wasn't charging it before going to Uni. In fact, I had to borrow him my charger so that he could continue playing. Unfortunatelly I hadn't the pleasure to listen to the sound quality, but judging from the fact that Stereo speakers have been replaced with Mono ones, I expect it to be... unpleasant in comparison.

Overall Opinion: Less than favourable. I'm going to buy the Street WAAAY in the future and only due to Collector's Value. If you are not a console collector, I strongly advise you to spend this little bit more and get a 3000, better yet, an early 2000 if possible. The Street is an incredible *waste of money*, it may look sleek on the box itself but what you find inside is far from ideal. I could literally find only ONE thing good about it, and that doesn't bode well for it. Avoid.

EDIT: Slight modifications.

Thanks for posting impressions.

I'd want a new PSP eventually, guess it'll be a 3000. If only Capcom released the superior 3000 over here ):

"The Superior 3000" ? Elaborate, I don't think I know what you're on about.
Capcom/Sony released a Monster Hunter 3000 bundle and it's got a few changes.
One of the better changes is the analog

edit: oh and the battery too aha

Oh, f*** You Prowler! Now I have another model to hunt down for my collection and I don't even know where to start! >>

Kidding, it's just a 3000 with a different analog and a better battery and paw-like speaker holes, other than that there doesn't seem to be any other changes, so it shall be thoroughly ignored unless I find it cheap in, say... 5 years? XD
