A friend of mine is looking for a title with a really "mature" story line. It doesn't have to have a lot of swearing, nudity, or blood or anything like that (though she said she doesn't mind if it does), but one with a really deep, serious story. It doesn't have to be for the DS, but she really wants one for the DS. She's given the following titles as examples:

    SMT: Devil Survivor
    SMT: Strange Journey
    Both Hotel Dusk games
    Dimentium

Does anyone know of any? Something that really makes you think, but at the same time has a really "adult" or "mature" feeling to it.

I think Strange Journey is your best bet. Actually Devil Survivor was pretty serious too. The problem is that those games can be tedious as hell, and if you're just looking to get straight to the story, you'll get bored really quick.

Maybe Moon, which wasn't the greatest game, but had a totally creepy story (I stopped playing because it was getting too gross for me).

    I'll suggest both to her.

And don't worry about the gameplay hindering the story - she'll play through something that's pure crap if it has a good story.

Are there any other ones out there? I know that there are a few horror games, but that's not exactly what she's looking for. Something with an amazing story, but that's really deep.

    Edit

Wow, that game looks great! It really reminds me of Detective Conan, and that's a great thing. I've never even heard of that game. Thanks for the heads up!

Phoenix Wright games can be serious; they're also very story-line oriented.

She's already beaten RE:DS, and really wasn't a fan. And she doesn't like the PW games :/

Also forgot to mention that she loved TWEWY. Are there any games with mature stories like that one? (Or the other games mentioned.)

She didn't like it because she thought it was a poor port. Her words, not mine. I personally don't like the RE series, so I didn't touch it.

She ran out to go see if our local store has Trace Memory. Do you guys know of any other titles?

I was about to suggest TWEWY before you said it... I'm afraid there are no similar games. It truly was a masterpiece. Too bad she doesn't have a PSP, the original Valkyrie Profile is my #1 favorite RPG in terms of story.

Chrono Trigger has a excellent story. It's also an excellent game.

The Phoenix Wright series and TWEWY were great games with mature storylines. The most mature (immature?) game you could possibly find for the DS is GTA: Chinatown Wars.

I don't think I related what she wanted me to post well - not really "mature" like drugs and such, but "mature" as in something that messes with your psyche, or has a really deep, hard to understand, but powerful story. I know that the Professor Layton tales do, but she's not a fan of the series (not that she doesn't like them, but she doesn't like riddle based games in general.)

Thanks for all of the suggestions, though : )

This game isn't on the DS, but it will definitely mess with her psyche. Indigo Prophecy, for PS2, Xbox, and PC. The story is insane, the characters are awesome, the whole game is a thrill ride.

I think she might be interested in Assassin's Creed (not a portable edition) because of how deep the story goes to (Jewish, Muslim...) and the art of the maps (I mean, come on, Israel and Italy 400-500 years ago? this gotta interest her)

I'm not so sure about Assassin's Creed - she didn't really like the first one because of it's style. I'll tell her to rent the second one, though.

To give you guys a clue as to what I'm talking about - her favorite game is "Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem" for the GC. I don't think there are any games like that for the DS, but if there are titles similar to it, I'm sure she'd love them.
