Hey all.

Wanted to open up thoughts and discussion regarding what the hacking / homebrew community will have up their sleeve when Mario Maker 2 comes out, for people with banned switches.

I know that when it came to the Mario Maker 1, there were ways to download level packs and share custom levels for people that were playing MM 1 through emulator or on a banned Wii U.

I know it is a bit early to tell, since the game is not out yet, but wanted people's thoughts, ideas and hopes. Do you think that through something like RomFS or custom server or LANplay or save editor, there will be a way to play other peoples level / upload custom levels.

I am and sure a lot of other people are really looking forward to this but have a banned switch.

well, LANPlay will work afaik.
Levels will be getting captured with a Proxy (only when they not encrypted)
then you can use RomFS to edit the Adventure Mode with Custom Levels.
so yes this will be possible but not as far as used then normal levels. (i mean why making levels with a computer when you can create levels directly yourself on Switch and upload them to Nintendo.)

The things pirates/banned users have to go through just to play to Super Mario Maker 2 is pointless. You guys are better off buying a new switch if you're banned

ldn-mitm allows you to play local multiplayer online, enabling online even in games that don't have it (potentially even Super Mario Party though I'm not sure how the dual screen functionality there works, if players can play on separate consoles or if the second console is just a screen), so it definitely has benefits over NSO.

But for Mario Maker I have to agree with you. The online functionality (level sharing, rankings, and so on) is such a big part of the game, and you can't get the same experience with ldn-mitm. But if you can share levels over local wifi then potentially there might be an easy way to share levels with other CFW users in the future through spoofing a Switch on a server with all the levels on it.

Even the local multiplayer functionality will be crippled on CFW, namely the random levels requiring an internet connection on the hosting Switch.

Well these people on the pirate side of Mario maker better have some top quality levels for the community to play. I know I got my preorder in but I'll try to see what Lan play can offer if it's a thing

Dumping them from a legit Switch will be possible, then they can be shared online :)
People did the same thing on Wii U, as it wasn't possible to go online with Loadiine.

Well yes people can indeed wait for people to upload a set of good levels from the legit switch into the banned switch. I know for sure it'll be easy now that we have a way to switch from Sysnand to emunand rather easily on SXOS and hopefully the new Emummc when Atmosphere gets that new June 15 update. Using EdiZon will be also easy to transfers saves. Possiblity are big but still a down. Only relying on non-banned users who own the game to upload levels for Lan play users
