sounds to me like a problem with your backup. I have been playing this online with a hosted room with my friends. The only problem I have had is with the error codes due to nintendo server problems. I think problem lies with your backup.

Well.. Maybe that or my network since my network is build up like this:

WLAN router -> Repeater -> Wii and maybe it looses to many packages??? Since it rarely does it.. And when it does it it is at places where the game doesnt need to load :S I mean ingame while racing.. Maybe after finishing a lap or later

Hi. I have the same problem on a non modded wii

I tried with another official mario kart disc working in my friend's wii and it crashes the same way

The most strange thing is that, as you said, it does it does not specially occur when the game needs to load...

I have no problem at all with mario kart excepted for online so this error is really strange.

Can't that be a network error?

I've got teh same problem it's really annoining me.
sometimes it happens between loading a new race but it also happens during a race.
got really now idea what the problem is.

would be really great if somebody know the answer to this problem

Try a PIO/PIE test of your disc

What's that???
But i really dont think it has something to do with my disc... I rather think it's my network

But dunno... Any ideas?

I finished the game without any problem but I still have this issue while playing online so I guess that's not the drive.
My router is a linksys wrt 54 GL (not sur for the GL, I'm not at home). What's yours?

i guess crappy media, what is your firmware both of wii and wiikey?

EDIT: oops i can see that XDDD but what is your wiikey version 1.9g? or 1.9S?
