OP
I have tried it on my PS2 and it's fascinating to play an N64 game on PS2. If it were back then, I'd be mindblown.

My question is, does it exist a version where the game doesn't have choppy audio or lag the game? Maybe the rip I played is outdated.

Not helpful to you but if you think about it.... Wouldn't Mario 64 supposed to have been on the PS1 before the fall out??

I'm still calling blasphemy though

To go back to your question, who is compiling the PS2 port and where abouts? I haven't seen anything about it around the Temp...Just the Nintendo ones.

I'd not mind a PS2 version, too. That'd feel even more retro.

I found this PS2 rip on YouTube. It runs, but it's not really playable all that much.

Tried three different copies and think they're all the same, so maybe someone here might have a much better one and updated. Sorta like Mario 64 3DS where the first build ran pretty bad, but the newer one is nearly perfect.

I do have to admit I enjoyed trying it out on the PS2, the graphics look nice, moving Mario with an analog stick is always better and the camera assigned to the right analog stick works very well. Problem is just the choppiness and lag that it has.

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way

Just give it a try, but honestly if you have a 3DS you can play DS games without a card just off the internal SD card
