Just putting my two cents in but are there really people out there who play a single title for YEARS at a time and insist on it having regular updates? I've always found DLC to be a rip-off system for suckers, kinda like cell phone ring tones and wallpapers. I want a game for what it is and when I'm done playing with it, I'm done. They could release all the expansion packs and dlc in the world, but after a year or so it'd be an old, busted game I don't wanna play anymore.
Also some things not noted:
1. Developers are both welcome and allowed to use ANY type of networking system available to them for multiplayer. This is why you can do a random match on virtually any game without having to input a friend code. The fact of the matter is most of the good online games are made by nintendo and they LIKE the friend codes so of course they'll use them. My point being you might not like friend codes, but architecture has NOTHING to do with why they are used.
2. Nintendo can be accused of a lot of things, but I've NEVER heard them being accused of making a poor quality console. Their stuff is built like IRON! Over the years the quality of their systems has only IMPROVED. The problem is some people can't seperate quality from containing bleeding edge tech. The two have nothing to do with each other. You can't break a wii but for the first couple of years the 360's were dropping like flies. The reason is the wii's tech was old enough to be perfectly reliable.
3. Patching of a game is completely and entirely possible on the wii, it's just that the game has to be coded for such a thing. Rock band on the wii allows track packs, for example. The reason it is never done is because there's only 512mb to play with on the wii so it'd be insainely stupid to code for add-ons you don't have space for. Aside from that, nintendo is really hard on devs to put out a bug-free product, more-so than the other two. While it is possible to get a buggy game (see GH III) it is very unlikely.
4. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. The interface on the wii is about as prefect as you can get. Any idiot can navigate it. Throw my mom on my 360 and she doesn't have a clue what to do, but even she can manage to fire up wii fit on the wii. I'll agree with the others in that the 360 and ps3 interfaces, while very pretty leave a lot ot be desired in terms of navigation, ESPECIALLY the NXBE.
The wii's only drawback is the limited storage and that is something that can definately be fixed. Do you think that if nintendo wanted to release a HDD add-on tomorrow that they wouldn't be able to whip up an "dvd emulator" that allowed you to play titles off of the HD? Seriously people are giving the big N far too little credit, they can do anything, the question is WILL they do it as the architecture definately isn't holding them back.
