QUOTE said:Ben Jacobs, 20, was having a boozy night with friends when he was bashed, leaving him with a crushed eye socket, fractures to his skull and bleeding on the brain.
Yesterday, he tried to piece together the puzzle of his ordeal while recovering in Geelong Hospital.
"If people want to fight they should use the outlets available like martial arts and kickboxing, not people's faces," he said.
"I want the person to know that at the end of the day they've got their sight.
"I don't have mine."
Mr Jacobs said he spent Saturday afternoon and evening drinking with a group of mates at a house in Corio.
None of his friends can recall the attack because they had been drinking heavily, he said.
"My memory is blank; all I remember is going out to have a good time," Mr Jacobs said.
"Now I've lost my sight in one eye; just like that."
His mum, Tracy Shaw, was first faced with the possibility of a vicious attack when her son's close friends said they overheard two people bragging about it.
"We've heard a few different things and we've been told a few different things," Mrs Shaw said.
"My daughter heard that they used a towel rack which was bent at the end to hit him and also metal cricket stumps.
"She found the towel rack behind the milk bar and handed it into the police but she couldn't find the cricket stumps."
Mrs Shaw said the group of friends had been drinking all Saturday afternoon and continued into the evening.
"He'd been drinking with his friends; they were all drinking," she said.
"They had a couple of bottles of Jim Beam but I'm not sure how much of that they drank."
His injuries were so severe that Mrs Shaw did not recognise her son when she found him covered in blood on the lounge in their Corio home after the early Sunday morning attack.
"I was looking, and looking, and looking wondering who was asleep on the lounge," Mrs Shaw said. "It wasn't until I was right up close that I realised it was Ben.
"His face was covered in blood, it was bruised and swollen.
"I just screamed out to my husband that Ben had been bashed.
"They hit him in the head and face and we don't know why.
"It all happened less than 500m from our home and Ben can't even remember being attacked or coming home or even how he got home."
Police are investigating the attack.
