I can see nintendo scouring their next SM update with a fine toothed comb around the mail boxy bits of code..... or probably not...

I doubt they will bother with Wii anymore, they are too focused on 3DS and Wii U right now, heck they don't even bother in release games for Wii (yeah I'm bitter because Xenoblade and The Last Story)

I could think that all their enginering force move up to Wii U development.

This is unbelievable. Will make hacking 4.3 Wii's piss easy. Finally Nintendo has a reason for SM 4.4...lol!

You just have to copy a prepared file onto your SD card. That's it!
via crediar's Twitter.

I had presumed (wrongly) it could be emailed to you, but I guess thta would rely on the wii reading an attachment, to load hackmii from the email/mailbox source...

This sounds way better!

That is so weird. I woke up this morning and I was like "hmm, I wonder if you could create an exploit for the Wii by sending some type of email." And now I come on to GBAtemp and find this.

Anyway, great work on this, I assume the Wii will have to have Internet access, though?
EDIT: Never mind, just read the post above me.

wow

what else do you have to do to install everything else?

this is just for hackmii installer clearly.. once you have hbc the rest is up to you.

EDIT: can anyone explain to me the correlation between mailbox and SD card slot, are their features of the wii im not aware of (I.E. backup/restore emails? I never used my wii for email), or is this a case of NOP slide redirect to SD?

Well, I think that when the mail box is full, the Wii can move old messages to the SD card, but I don't know If you still read them on the wii and/or copy them back.

Hmmm, never heard of this before, but if its true that bridges the gap...

EDIT: OR Email > attach pic > photo channel > sd card access?

Nope, you can't backup/restore mails, you can transfer photos from the SD card to Wii Message Board, that way you can email later.
You can't email photos from Photo Channel directly, you need transfer it to Wii Message Board IIRC.

EDIT: In fact your SD transfered photos appears in Wii Message Board in form of new messages

Theory:

In the video:
Video contains details "save zelda" so its the same/similar redirect to the original twilight hack.

Possibilities
The email is created by the user by using corrupted image/special characters (??), then sent to the wii (alternatively it is created on the wii)
When its opened/reopened it crashes.

Pure speculation.

@hyrule2008: bit late matey..

but that doesnt restore aka get the hack onto the wii..
Yes, but I believe that you can still read them from the sd, because after a bit more googling I found that the files aren't easy to find/read on your computer, which doesnt make sense unless you can still read them on the wii. That would also explain the little SD picture above the bob-omb in the original video.
