It actually wasn't Apple who popularized the differentiating of 'Mac' and 'PC'... It's been like that as far as I can remember. I think Apple just popularized the idea that the Mac is different from your standard PC that you will see throughout 90% of the world.

I personally never really liked macs, just always prefered PCs as I am more native to the PC. My brother makes horrible attempts to bash PCs, I just started resenting macs and their users and Apple in general.

for 1: the computers were so so and a UNIX that really isnt special.
2: apple is annoying because they think their the original kings of the world.
3: their users are crackheads because of the gay biased commercials

And second of all, if you have the nerve to come forward and say which one is better, you better be damn sure you know your shit because I can tell you right now, neither one is better or worse. They both serve their purposes. Although both can equally perform the same tasks, they each have their strengths and weaknesses. If you wanna survive in the computer world, you'd be best off knowing both. If you only know one, then cram it.

Also, the "myth" about not being able to upgrade a Mac is bull. I'm not a fanboy of either, I just state the facts; You may not be able to upgrade with 1st party pieces of hardware, but I can tell you right now my G5 is loaded with unauthorized hardware, as it's needed to be upgraded over the past couple years. From memory, to hard drives, to disc drives, to graphics cards, etc. it is very well possible.

Why do I use a Mac? I use it because I am fond of how the OS performs for the tasks I need to do -- I do heavy videography, programming, photography, etc, so the Mac is my unit of choice. However, I use Windows as well, mainly for my MS Office related work, as well as having to use it at work. All of the software we have at work I need to be able to run at home as well, so I use both.

And BoneMonkey, as for your gaming charts, you'll need to put Mac and PC together because the Mac runs Windows at 100% native speed. However, I wouldn't put them at the top, as the PC games have been lacking in quality lately. Plus, I'd rather play a 360 game over a PC game anyday, mainly because of the fact that I really only use my computers for business and programming

This is the truth.

I hadn't touched a mac for years, but one day I started a graphic/web design course and found out we'd be using macs. It wasn't an OHNO ITS A MAC type thing, but I wasn't sure exactly WHY they were using them. I soon found out how great they were for that sort of line of work, and since then have understood that they do have their place and it's for a reason (well a few reasons really but I won't go into details).

Kinda like hankchill said, macs are like games consoles in the sense that because the hardware is mostly consistent everywhere, things made for macs just tend to work as they should.

Speaking of consoles, the bashing from each side is completely unnecessary and parallels the whole console fanboy thing, and it's really stupid.

A top of the line mac will pwn your top of the line (custom built) pc any day. Macs are built for graphics heavy applications, PC's aren't.

Edit: and also, 1500 isn't much for a mac, I spent 1600 on my laptop, and 2k on my pc.

You just met one. I have owned both PC's and Macs over the years and I probably know a whole lot more than you. The overused stereotype that Mac users don't know what they are doing has, and never will be, true. Most Mac users know exactly what we are doing and just don't want to spend the time troubleshooting with other operating systems when we could use soemthing that works efficiently.

While I agree that if you do not like Macs you have the right to speak out against them, most of the users here are making redundant comments which either have no basis in actual reality or are simply bashing Mac users because they can. Out of all the Mac haters in this thread, I am willing to bet that many of you haven't used a Mac since the G3 iMac in 1998.

And if just one person says that Macs can't right click I am going to go apeshit.

P.S - This argument has went on for years, there is no end to it. They both have their pros and cons, and each has it's share of avid fanboys who will defend them adamantly.

I'll add to the chaos by saying that most people don't upgrade their computers until it's too late for a simple upgrade and a complete overhaul is needed. So in effect, they buy an entire new computer every time.
