If it's bricked half way you should be able to easily reflash it, because I assume they would put some sort of safety feature into the updates like the first 5% of an update would be the backup safety feature.

the software that handles updates most likely isn't updateable.

it probably has a separate chip with update code which when powered on reads the microSD for an update file, and then flashes it onto it's other general purpose chip.
