OK, I hear these terms quite a bit. What the hell is the difference between M33 and GEN CFW? I'm really confused about this.

M33 is more stable and more reliable than GEN-A and GEN-B. The latter is really meant for PSP-3000s but people believed that it would work with the newer games requiring 5.55. Which it really didn't.
While the former is what it is, and it still stands up well. Very well, so while fix/change what doesn't need to be.

Plus apparently DA is going to make a new CFW when Sony gets around to 6.0 or something, because he said there isn't that many important updates for him to make a 5.55

and oh yea while I'm here, if I wanted to put CFW 5.00 and then update after, I need Pandora battery, 5.00 M33, and 5.00 on my magic memory card right? And then I pretty much follow the instructions yes?

Anyway, thanks for the info.

this is abit bias but as I haven't tried GEN but putting it simpley I prefer m33, I've been using 5.00 m33-6 and I have never had a problem with it so I've never had the need to try anything different, it does what I need it to do and it does it very well.so until I have a problem with the firmware itself I won't change it (well I won't change it unless DA brings out an update)

Ok, but I'm still confused. I have a really outdated guide that is still from CFW 3.80 or something. Can I just replace those files with CFW 5.00M33 and 5.00 Official Sony Update?

Use the guide to get 3.80 M33 then just network update. Should do it automatically.

Oh, ok I get it now. Thanks so much for the help guys! I still have a lot to learn with this system.

or you could make a ms with 5.00 m33 already on it (there are apps for it)
and then if you want Gen put the installer on your msn from gen and use the test m33 function. then you can skip the flashing part of m33

i love m33 and had a hard time switching to gen but had to because only gen can go to the playstation network and wanted to use remote play

Out of curiosity, can someone list or link me to all these bugs in GEN I keep hearing of? I've been using 5.50GEN-B shortly after it came out and I have yet to encounter any major problem.

And I'm using 5.03 GEN-A and I haven't encountered a problem, aside from the random crash when entering the internet browser or putting the PSP in standby. But it's nothing to render the custom firmware unusable.
