Hacking m3 simply thoughts and opinions?

right now i have a g6 flash card.
i was really sad when i realised i could not play monkey island on the g6.

i was going to sell it to my girlfriend and them purchase a m3.
i was just wondering peoples opinions on the m3 simply.
i have a gba flash card, so i figured i can use that for gba games and i'd go with a slot on card for my ds.

any problems anyone has run into with the simply concerning homebrew, and backups?
anyone run scummds and have any experience with that?
scum games are my favorite, one of the reasons i bought a flash card at all was to be able to play them on the go... i was very sad when i realised i bought the wrong card for my intentions.
but that was months ago, and i feel its time for an upgrade.

The current version of ScummVM doesn't support the simply yet, but DLDI support will probably be in the next release, the build from the SVN works fine.

and i hear slot 1 cards have a lot of slow down, how does that effect gameplay? just takes longer for the game to load?

No slowdowns with good slot1 devices. AKA R4/M3 Simply..and 2nd tier these days seem to be the EZ V and the SupercardDS.

wait... so as soon as scummvm supports DLDI, then the simply will support it?

does that mean my g6 will support scummvm then as well, since there is a DLDI patch for the g6?

I played monkey island without a problem on my G6. I don't see why you have a problem.

it plays using the zip method, but that just does it through the gba, doesn't have the touch screen and dual screen with that.
or am i just mistaken?

half right, half wrong. It uses the zip method, yes, but you misunderstand what is referred to as the GBA flashcart method.

Every device you use except an M3 simply/R4 etc are GBA flashcarts that can run in DS mode. The G6 is a GBA flashcart, the M3 is a GBA flashcart, the SuperCard is a GBA flashcart etc. Why? They're all GBA slot devices.

The zip method is designed for carts that does not have FAT drivers. I assume you never bothered trying what it would look like because it works as it should. You are limited to 32MB per pack, but you can have multiple packs.

i've tried it, but it just loaded as gba screen (then didn't work). i didn't bother going much further than that. i figured since it was loading it through the gba screen it was just goign to play it in gba mode without touch screen.
and another reason i stopped was because my monkey island 1 was bigger then 32 meg wtih mp3 audio. so i figured i'd just get a new card anyways.

There's the mistake. It wasn't supposed to be loaded in GBA mode.

Since you're set on getting a new card, I don't see the need to show you how it works.

mmhmm.. if he "ph4iLs" for that, you "ph4iL" in reading.

Onto the main point, when you get to this step, you need to rename to just .nds and it works just fine.

for the DLDI release and the simp

ScummVM DS was updated to support DLDI so you can run your mp3 audio/talkie versions on the G6.
