Great guide. My neighbour has ordered an R4, when it comes to computers he is an idiot. Hopefully this guide will save me explaining things to him about 50 times. I'm surprised you've never found the rom trimmer handy, its a must have when you have a 64MB games and it trims it down to 34MB.

hum, i have some questions, for exemple, don't we need a passcard3?? i though if we didn't use flashed cards, we need it! another question, can't we play GBA roms? for example i was thinking of buying this:

http://www.divineo.com/cgi-bin/div-us/dd-ds-m3lpass

M3 Perfect Lite Micro SD

The M3 Lite is the answer of M3 team to the Nintendo DS Lite. It is a full blown M3 adapter that will perfectly fit into your Nintendo DS Lite GBA cartrige slot without sticking out, and with all the functions of the M3 Adapter.
It is using Micro SD card and comes with 3 cases (Black, White and Ice Blue) for perfect integration in the design of your Nintendo DS Lite.

One Passcard included.

so it is suppose to play gba games too. i am a bit confuse

This guide is for a m3 simply, a SLOT 1 device that goes in on the TOP SLOT. Previous flashcarts that you put in the BOTTOM SLOT are called slot 2 devices and those need a passme device to boot the GBA slot in DS mode. SLOT 1 devices do not play GBA games, only slot 2 devices.

I'm also interested to know if there are any more differences between the M3 Simply and Lite, aside from the fact Simply doesn't run GBA games.
I couldn't find a M3 Simply vs M3 Lite thread or something so far.
You need both to get the Opera browser to work.
How is it with ScummVM DS for example? This works for both, in the same way?
The saving system, functionalities/capabilities are the same as well, for GBA, DS, NES etc. and also emulators like ScummVM DS?

I expect a M3 Simply vs M3 Lite overview somewhere, so if anyone knows of any, do let me know :0

EDIT:
Oh! And how about WiFi/LAN play? They're the same in functionality/support in that regard too??

Great guide. Someone wrote something similar about the G6 when I first got it and it helped me alot.

After reading this I had a question about the passcard function of the R4. Can the R4 boot to any slot-2 nds capable card or are there cards that cannot boot from it. The reason I ask is I remember that when I bought my G6 that some passcard devices did not work with the g6. My G6 boots fine from it but do the ezflash, supercards and other slot-2 carts boot the same way or as easily?

Teapea,

Let me say you made an awesome guide. It helped me get off the ground.

If you're open to suggestions, can you add a little info about M3 Game Manager in your Bundled Software?

Also, you can add the following links to your Skins section:
http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=42251
http://xoomer.alice.it/dball75/Skin.htm
http://www.m3-forum.com/viewtopic.php?t=6832

Lastly, put a little blurb about DS Download Play not working on the DS Simply. I'm hoping they fix that in a future firmware update.

Is there a way to turn on a SOFT RESET function on the M3 Simply?

I owned a G6Lite before this, an I liked how you could go back to the menu without turning the DS off everytime.

How do I skin the blasted thing? I've placed the bmps in the _system_ folder, in the _system_/_system folder, in the themes folder...nothing works.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
