Computer hackers broke into the Senate's public website Wednesday though they were unable to get proprietary data, the Senate acknowledged today.

It was the second such attack in less than a week.

Meanwhile, the CIA website was taken down Wednesday afternoon. The hacktivist group LulzSec group claimed credit.

"Tango Down--cia.gov--for the lulz," it wrote on Twitter.

Deputy Senate Sergeant at Arms Martina Bradford said the hackers' attempts to penetrate the Senate network failed. They were able to download some information from the public site, she said, but could not access sensitive data because they were blocked by a firewall.

Over the weekend, a portion of the Senate website was hacked in what Bradford described as a similar attack. Lulz - which is best known for a recent attack on Sony - claimed credit for that attack. The attack prompted a review of Senate web security.

Bradford said Senate networks have been targeted by hackers since they first went online.

First they take down Senate.gov and now CIA.gov, this time no data appears to be leaked though.
Those guys are fearless.

This is precisely the sort of action that will finally get the internet censored / firewalled / closely monitored in the US.

Thanks so much.

You read my mind exactly. I don't think LulzSec gives two shits, though...

at 6 of 19 attacks (not including DDoS which doesn't count) i'd say they're still leading on that front...

It has been really quiet about it lately though, back then they sounded like they were going to dedicate themselves to it completely, instead they are now just hacking randomly around the web.
I wonder if they're going to continue with defacing sony.

I'm pretty sure they live in the UK so it wouldn't directly affect them.

Yeah they have balls, but who actually gives a fuck?
You should.
They're giving politicians excuses to destroy my rights on my Internet.
They'll cause the end of the Internet if they keep pooping on everyone's heads like this.
I hope they get caught and hung from the necks until they are dead.

They should pass a worldwide that allow you to murder them and their family if found and then put their heads on a stick.

Not "who gives a fuck about them hacking people". Rather "who gives a fuck about how big they think of themselves"?

What are these guys trying to prove?
Nothing is unhackable? Old news.
We're just so l33t with our hacking skillz. Yeah, okay.

To me, all these guys are doing is screaming for attention going "look at us and what we can do!"

They're not, they're a bunch of noobs. All they can do is a SQL injection, they have no other skills. This is why they stop if that doesn't work.

The reasons they're noobs is because SQL injections can be done by pretty much anyone.

Then why have everything they've hacked be vulnerable to such a simple exploit, Giga?

There's no way this nation is taking away the Internet from myself and others. Giant protests will ensue.
Never said it would be the end of the internet for Americans. Just a lot of the freedom / anonymity on our portion of the internet.

QUOTEAnd it's not like they're gonna use the military against us.

You don't think so?

I think it's a possibility.
