Hacking Question looking to buy NEW moddable switch

i’ve seen people selling moddable switches on ebay and reddit but i’m not sure how i feel about buying a used one as they could be banned or something else that could cause problems for me. is it possible for me to buy a new switch that is confirmed hackable? i know with the ps4, you can buy it bundled with a game that was released before the exploit was patched, is this the case with the switch? and if so, what bundle and where can i get one from? any info is appreciated.

i’m aware of how serial numbers are used to determine if it’s hackable or not but if i’m buying it brand new from a retailer, it could be a hassle to check the serial number and confirm if it’s hackable. the people who work at my local gamestop are pretty cool so i could just ask to look at the serial numbers on their new consoles and hopefully they’ll let me.

Don’t trust the bundles. Only way to find out is by checking the serial numbers. It ain’t too much of a hassle as you said. Serials are on the box(except for JPN versions) so you could easily type it in one of the available serial number checkers for Nintendo Switch.

Ebay is OK if you only buy one which is advertised with the serial.
Your only issue is trusting the vendor that the unit is not banned also.
As mentioned, I wouldn't trust bundles at this late stage as they probably have been silently revised since their initial release.

For a new moddable switch I think your best bet will be a patched unit on 4.1.0... I think there are certain limitations with some homebrew on a patched switch but it is moddable and will definitely be easier to find.

I was able to find a cheap new one at an outlet it was patched but on 4.1.0. I was gonna return it but I actually think i'd prefer the pegascape method of accessing atmosphere rather than using a jig (plus it was like $80 cheaper as it was at an outlet)

You may be lucky and find one, I saw some that were possibly patched at the hardware department of a supermarket a couple weeks ago but i couldnt find any that were definitely unpatched.. I guess it depends if u live in a populated area or not (i live in a relatively small city). If they are possibly patched just make sure they have a return policy, if u open up the box and check the firmware or whether its unpatched.
