i'm planning to buy a switch next time i get paid and so i was looking for the best way to put homebrew and games on it, aside from that i had multiple questions regarding the hacking part specially if firmware reverting is a thing so i don't have to worry about buying the new OLED switch or buying a used one that's been updated i'd appreciate a response though i may not answer in the next 9 hours as i'll be either sleeping or working

1) Firmware reverting, or downgrading, isn't a practical option
2) OLED switches, and switches manufactured after July/August 2018, are referred to as "Mariko" switches, as they use Mariko hardware revision. This revision patched the soft-mod most commonly used to install custom firmware. The only way to hack OLED/Mariko is soldering a modchip onto the internal board of the switch.
3) As such, your best bet is trying to find a relatively old second-hand switch for sale. You can check whether the switch is old enough to be soft-modded by checking its serial number, and seeing which range of serials it falls into. If it is listed as unpatched, it's able to be hacked regardless of firmware version.

I hope that helps :)
(and anyone else feel free to correct me if I'm wrong)

Well, nothing major, but still a little correction. The i-patched Switches that started coming out in summer 2018 were still erista consoles. The Mariko revision came out a little later, of course also patched.

doubt your gonna find one that doesnt require a modchip in a retail store, better off buying a v1 second hand, cant read the serial numbers
