Can someone please explain what the difference between someone downloading a wad or iso on a torrent or site then installing it on the wii or just downloading straight to the wii.

How is one more illegal then the other. They are both the same thing. So i dont see how someone can argue and say whoaa you are way out of line that is just way more illegal. I'm down for downloading illegal things on my computer, but thats like double illegal if i do it on my wii.
It's not more illegal but by using torrents or Upload Sites you can't track one Uploader. By hosting all the WADs on a Server (which by the way is a amount of many GB) you have one person who owns/rents the server who get's in trouble, server will be shut down, doesn't matter where it is (except you have your own on a drilling rig I guess

). You know how many sites shut down because of hotsing N64/SNES/GB roms. Is such a project ok with the forum rules?

By the way:
@thc42O: What can you give to the project? Hosting? animated channel? WADs? App?

Then would it not be too difficult to have the app make use of the torrent protocol?

i don't think it would be

Torrents suck. Why not add support for RapidShare etc? You host one xml File where all the DL links are listed. If one WAD gets deleted, you upload it again and change the XML file. Like a repository!

so is someone gonna actually code this thing or are we just gonna talk about it?

If it actually get made here are my four sugessted names

"Wii Steal" (probably alittle too blunt)
"The Pirate Shop" ( playing off pirate bay)
"Wii Copy Shop" ( I like the way this one sounds)
" FreeWii or WiiFree Shop" ( sounds like a fruit)

Would work very great as the files would only be shared when the app is running. So you would have no seeds and so no downloads but if you would port the libtorrent to the Wii it would be... totaly useless for this approach as we can't let it run in Wiiconnect24 mode.

So you would need to always change the code when Rapidshare changes there captchas or anything at the site, Jdownloader gets many updates because some hosters change some things so often. And with Rapidshare you could only downlaod 1 game every 15 minutes with a speed about 200kb/s (free user), the Wii can do at least 400kb/s, even this is too slow for me for 40MB files.

Just talking I guess

This takes nothing to code. I made something similar for myself where it would just download/install wads from my local Mac running XAMPP with a queue like function since I was too lazy to manually install things one by one. Just need someone with the balls to be the blunt of all the legal actions (which you WILL get, no matter what country you're in,) and to pay the bandwidth bill. You can expect to see a rather high rate of traffic to where the provider would surely flag it. If you do the math, the bill would be insanely high for a payed host -- so you would need to charge somewhere for something.

I've been trying to resource a basic deluge to run on a Wii for a couple of weeks now (not much time.) But its seemingly possible to get it to work towards a FAT usb, and then install things via a wad manager. This alternative.. which isn't the OPs idea.. is just about as legal as you can make this from a coder's standpoint.

so r u making any headway or not

Now all we need is a "Channel Shop Channel".

Seriously good idea, I thought of something similar, but then a new Legend Of Zelda probably came out and it was never heard of again.
"Why Gannondorf? Why?" Pauses. Scoops up cat in bottle. "DO DO DO DOOOOOOOO!"

EDIT: Name suggestion: The Leecher's Library

not a good idea, and there already is a home-brew downloader channel. good way for Nintendo to get even tighter and tougher next update.

if anything use megaupload or mediafire because they have no waiting times and multiple downloads.

anything but rapidshare!

Sounds good, homebrew browser with wads haha, just dont name the bloody thing WAD Manager, it sounds prehistoric, and in my opinion its not a descriptive name, a project like this should have an original, and elegant name, like Preloader, Freedom or whatever you know what i mean.
