Hacking long time gateway user-question regarding moving to basic CFW

so ive used gateway since its launch and im quite fine to use it, but i would like to tinker with CFW and see how it all works (especially since it supports gba via agb patching)

first question-for pasta cfw, do i need any retail game cart? ive googled, but most threads are from quite some time ago

secondly, is pasta the best cfw? if not, whats the best cfw that has the best featureset?

The reason most pasta threads are from so long ago is that Pasta is outdated and no longer developed.

The 'best' CFW as of right now is probably either rxTools (which the Pasta team is now developing) or AuReiNAND. I'd advise you go with rxTools

IMOP setup A9hl with aureinand. Install agb on sysnand and setup menuhax on sys to boot when holding a trigger (I prefer L+ up).

Use aurei emu for emu like gw
Use menuhax to load gw emu
Use R boot to load gba

rxTools patches AGB_FIRM so you can play GBA games. AuReiNAND doesn't.

I thought 100% auto boot rate into emunand or system nand for gba/dsi while maintaining the option to use gateway was the best setup.

Yes it comes with risks but I think it can accomplish everything and more

The newest arm9 loader that provides fastest boot times and 100% boot rate.

Once installed you can tri-boot between gateway, dsi/gba or emunand.

I could even set it up so it autoboots to gw and you hold R trigger to access gba

arm9loaderhax is an exploit that grants us kernel execution before the system begins booting.

Compared to non-a9lh setups, it has 100% bootrate, 3x faster (on average) boot speeds, and it makes it very difficult to brick (by granting us the ability to restore/backup NAND without a hardmod). However, you need to downgrade to 2.1 to get the files needed, and it can be a risky process (I bricked a 3ds setting it up in its early stages). It's safer now, but it can still take a long time to do and isn't recommended for beginners.

I don't actually have a gateway, but I imagine it would greatly speed up the process.
