Trying to link 2 Switch in the same house for Local Play and was getting heaps of disconnections. We are using Monster Hunter Rise but assuming this same issue would occur in any game. After google issue found a lot of people experiencing but no real fix other than rebooting both Switch. While this does seem to work sometimes or at least make it better, it didn’t stop it.

I finally realised that once you start a local game it jumps off the normal wifi network and the two switch are actually making an Ad-Hoc connection. Which makes total sense, so you could play in a park or on a bus without having internet. Though at home makes no sense given the incredibly short proximity of the signal. I can only assume it’s using Bluetooth since even 3-4 meters away the signal is showing 0 bars.

Both switch are hacked therefore we cannot utilise the online servers. I really don’t want to play 200+ hours of MHR sitting on the floor in front of my sons 65” inch TV and he doesn’t want to play hand held on the couch for the same reason.

I know about various LanPlay apps to allow you play remotely using the “local” method so they must be re-routing the traffic but I just want to do the same thing but actually locally without having to use a server or extra apps every time we play. Is there such a hack or can I just install LanPlay on the switch without the need for servers and point them at each other somehow ?

There are some games that support lan mode (AD-Hoc), like mario kart, splatoon etc. they do not need LanPlay to play together, because they dont use nintendo servers in that mode. AFAIK MHR is no such game and thus needs "Lan Play" to work. there is no offline only solution for non adhoc games.

you should probably read this: https://gbatemp.net/threads/ldn_mitm-play-local-wireless-supported-games-online.525512/
which builds upon this: https://gbatemp.net/threads/official-switch-lan-play.520912/

and either use an existing server which may or may not lag or create your own local one which may or may not work (never tried 2 switches and a server in the same network).

Thanks for replying! I had already read through but basically now our switches are on a more current fw that is not even supported by this ldn_mitm so that's off the table until they catch up. I will give a try if they ever update to support the latest fw.
