Okay, my PSP 2001 got a small amount of liquid spilled on it when no one was home, and it was left sit for about half an hour. I left the PSP off for a few days, and now it has some issues.

1. The screen and speakers turn off randomly during gameplay. Frequently too. Once every 10 mins at least. This is fixed by putting it to sleep and turning it back. It usually takes 2-3 tries.
2. The D-Pad is shorting out, I presume, and is constantly stuck pressing Right. This is the more annoying issue.

I can live with the screen & speakers, if I have to, but does anyone think the D-Pad can be fixed if I open my PSP? I'm thinking it's as simple as cleaning off the contacts. Am I right in this?

I haven't opened it yet. When I do, I'll supply pictures to get a second opinion. All goes to plan, I'll pop it open Monday or Tuesday.
