file roller (linux compression, decompression utility) can decompress almost any archive you will find.

unless you have some insane reason to need VBA or access then Open Office can easily do anything that M$ office can, and can open most files created in M$ office, although it can be a little iffy with power point presentations in microsoft's docx formats.

pretty shit, probably, that is a tiny amount of ram for windows, and it will take up atleast 1-2 gigs of SSD space once you have a decent anti virus et al.

I use this netbook with XP. You might want to look around for an XP OS.
I had to pay £50 more, but its worth it.

Plus, your RAM is pretty low.

Mine is 1GB.

1. Linux should do. Use ZipGenius, its free and does exactly the same thing.

2. Install it normally.

3. It should be fine, but at bit slow at times.

when i got my netbook, it had windows xp on it. It was SLOW AS HELL on the ssd. I've heard there are tweaks to make it somewhat faster, but i think winxp is constantly writing to the disk, and literally everything slows down to a halt. Imagine if Firefox took 30-45 seconds to open.. then another minute to load until it's usable. Just go with Linux, I use EEEbuntu on my ASUS eee pc 900, there should be something similar/ubuntu-like for the aspire.

What Linux distro is installed on this netbook might I ask?

Also Linux can do everything Windows can with the exception of natively playing games like Crysis or Fallout 3. This isn't Linux's fault but more the companies who create the games refusing to develop for the Linux kernel and its distros.

What else do you need to know?

The built-in 0.3 Megapixel webcam is actually pretty good!
It looks like its better than that. It has its own storage and if you like the photo's you can save them to your pictures.

What colour are you getting? Believe it or not, Sapphire Blue picks up fingerprints easily.

Can microsoft office open documents and files created by open office?

you can save it into a MSO format, or, as I usually do, just send the sun MSO plugin that allows MSO to open OOo documents along with whatever you are sending.

(nb. MSO = microsoft office
OOo = open office . org)

Errrh another question does linux need a anti-virus program?

nope, not at all, this is part of the reason it is so much faster, it doesn't need third party programs like anti virus software.

QUOTE(lesj1989 @ Jun 1 2009, 10:28 AM) My Netbook is pretty quick and even plays games like halo 1 and football manager 2008 not tried 2009 yet.

So Put Xp on It and have fun

the are quite a few games available for linux these days, the unreal tournament series runs on it. and the are games such as urbanterror and open arena that are open source and run on it.
