Hacking Lines through the screen on the original ds

There are lines running from top to bottom on the top screen.

Is the screen completely broken or can i open and see if any wires are misplaced?

Also on an unrelated problem; i have another ds (The original red mario kart one) And it only turns on when it wants to. Sometimes if you press the button nothing will happen at all. Other times it works fine. Could it be a dirty battery connection?

i have it open right now. What could i try?

I'd suggest checking the flexible ribbon cable that connects the upper screen to the motherboard. It may have worked itself loose, in which case you should be able to just reseat the connection to fix the problem.

On the other hand, if the ribbon cable has become damaged, it is more of a hassle to repair it.
