Hello Tempers,
I am thinking about buying a used psp for $80. The thing is that they have a psp-1000 and a psp-3000 for the same price. Should I get the phat or the newer one. I also can't check the firmware without buying the handheld.

If it was me making the purchase... I would get the 1000.

The 3000 will likely never get permanent CFW which may make the system restrictive if you want to run homebrew and the latest games in the future. Although at the moment it is highly unlikely a 6.XX CFW will be released it is still more likely that it will happen for the 1000 as opposed to the 3000.

Also while the 3000 does have a slimmer build, TV-out and 64MB RAM it is also less sturdy and you run the risk of bricking when using various homebrew tools/altering flash0 whereas with the 1000 almost every part of the system can be restored using a pandora battery and MMS.

The 3000 also has those horrible scanlines which while they are easily ignored after a while can be annoying for some. For me the TV-out has also never looked all that good on the few TVs I have tried and the 64MB of RAM is only used to make games load faster (and for a few select homebrews), if you are loading games from the MS the 64MB of RAM won't make much of a difference.

If the 3000 happens to have a firmware greater then 5.03 you are screwed in regards to homebrew compatibility and you will not be able to load ISOs from your memory stick. If the 1000 has a firmware greater then 5.03 you can just buy a pandora battery and install a CFW regardless of what firmware it has.

hacking that PSP is a no pain

5th Dimension Store is supposed to be good.

Edit-- It's worth noting that it's cheaper to get a normal PSP battery and pandorize it. Also, that's all they have in stock ATM.

He's in Germany... 5thDimensionStore is in Canada, it'll take the same amount of time as DX. I'd recommend looking for a European company.
Oh yeah, forgot about that...

@ZeroTim: Yeah, that's all you have to do. I would recommend an exacto knife or something similar though. There are a million tutorials on the internet.

Edit-- Wait, what? You live in Canada? Is that sarcasm?

If you cut into your battery you'll probably have to buy a new one...Do you have any friends with a hacked psp? If so ask if they can softmod your battery.

Yes. With a Pandora and a MMS. I think there's a guide for that in the stickies.
Yep.

No it's not sarcasm, I moved to Canada 1 1/2 years ago and I don't know how to change the flag.

That sounds right, and have you set up an MMS? That's mentioned in the guide too.
