Father's Day (2011) - Funny and disgusting grindhouse-inspired horror/comedy produced by Troma. The writers/directors are Canadian, and they lay the Canadian-isms thick. It's a little too rough around the edges and the third act is bloated, but it's enjoyable overall.

Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter - My favorite Friday the 13th movie. Tom Savini returned and provided some of the best gore in the franchise. The stunt showcase was bigger here, the pacing is much better with the slowness at a major low. This movie also featured the strongest cast in the franchise, with very memorable performances from Crispin Glover and Corey Feldman. I think of this movie as the best meat and potatoes slasher film of the 80s.

Friday the 13th: A New Beginning - A huge dropoff from the 4th movie. An interesting concept was squandered here. The gore is also super neutered, the MPAA was starting to butcher these movies. Director Danny Steinmann seemingly didn't care about the gore as much as he did the nudity. So much unnecessary nudity here. I would let it slide more if the movie had a lot of gore and violence, but no. The balance is way off. The slow pacing reared its ugly head, it was basically 1 step forward, 2 steps back. No, 5 steps back, it's a regression.

Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives - Now we're back in business. Whereas Part V tries to do something different and fails. Part VI does things a bit different and succeed. Meta humor and horror references pepper the movie, and this was the introduction to zombie Jason. More over-the-top kills and gore coming back a bit strong. Still not as gory as the first and fourth movies, but still satisfying. Night and day with Part V because that movie had so much nudity, while this movie had zero nudity. It proves that it could still entertain without nudity. Some gripes though, Tommy Jarvis went out with a whimper and all the complexities about him are gone. He's also pushed to the side like in Part V. The cast isn't as strong as Part 4, though the final girl is pretty damn cool! She comes off as an action hero, almost like she's in a different movie than others. A major plus for this movie is Alice Cooper! Three songs of his were used for this movie, giving a serious hard rock edge to this movie. It belongs in a movie like this where it feels more energized. Also, months after watching Ghost, it was a treat to see Tony Goldwyn get killed by Jason.

Kobato - Episode 13th, I'm not used to watch anime so often but this show is so good and pretty.

Final Destination (first one) - dumb and entertaining. Looks like the more memorable deaths are in the sequels, will hopefully get to them soon.

Friday the 13th Part 7: The New Blood - This movie had potential but was ruined by the MPAA wanting the gore toned down and an associate producer who had too much power over the story. It's a one-act movie, the first 2/3rds is mostly a neutered Friday the 13th movie. The third act is Carrie vs. Jason, which was awesome. That saves the movie from being in the bottom of the barrel with the next 2 movies.

Friday the 13th Part 8: Jason Takes Manhattan - BORING. Mostly unlikable cast, even more toned down gore, pretty goofy special effects at times, and false advertisement. The first hour and 4 minutes of the movie takes place on a ship! Then when Jason finally makes it to NYC, it's actually Vancouver! They didn't have the budget to shoot in NYC, only shooting there for 2 days. The first actual NYC scene happens at the 1 hour 23 minute mark. I estimate the actual NYC stuff in this movie takes up only 5 minutes. The best scene of the movie by far was Jason in Times Square. This was a slog of a movie.

Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday - This movie pisses me off so much. The random lore dropped on this was insulting and reads like bad fan fiction. The behind-the-scenes stories of this movie are messy, basically director Adam Marcus went nuts with his own version of a Friday the 13th movie, resulting in something that barely resembles a Friday the 13th movie and seems like a ripoff of The Hidden. This wasn't a slasher movie, it was a body horror movie. When it came time to edit, Marcus was locked out of the editing room and producer Sean Cunningham decided to order reshoots. He claimed that only 45-50 minutes of what Adam Marcus shot was usable. This movie is 87 minutes, unless you count the unrated version, which is 90 minutes. So yeah, a disjointed and irritating movie. To quote Peter Griffin, "It insists upon itself." It's the worst Friday the 13th in my opinion. Hell, it's not a Friday the 13th movie!

Jason X - This is a bad movie. The CGI is rough and dated, the acting is very hokey and suitable for a cheap sci-fi TV show, the story is idiotic, and the dialogue is dumb. But I love the movie! This is easily in the "so bad it's good" camp, a very fun slasher movie that didn't take itself seriously and just had a blast messing with sci-fi and slasher tropes. The sound of young people having sex literally woke Jason up from a 400+ year frozen slumber. That alone should say how this movie can't be taken seriously. It's comfort food. It's like a Hot Pocket. Quick, microwaveable treat.

Freddy vs. Jason - Super fun, super explosive, and a terrific balancing of the Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th vibes and trademarks. The movie is also Robert Englund's final time playing Freddy Krueger, and he went out with a bang. His final moment was a wink to the camera, just perfect. The guy playing Jason, Ken Kirzinger was also good. A major shame that Kane Hodder didn't play Jason, but ah well. I've slowly grown to like the cast of teens. It took a long time to get to that point, I used to hate Kelly Rowland and Monica Keena. I've calmed down on Rowland's character, and now I like Lori, the final girl. This is now a fun fact, the guy who played the general in the Sonic the Hedgehog movies played Lori's dad. Not a big role, but it was nice to see him. In this viewing, I came to really admire the directing from Ronny Yu. A Hong Kong director who made some American films, and I believe he peaked here. This was extremely fiery and bloody, just Ronny Yu going for it, maximizing the spectacle of this versus concept. It's basically the Wrestlemania of slasher movies.

Friday the 13th (2009) - I'd rather think of this as a reboot or reprise than a remake. Whatever the case, this is pretty solid. I've grown to really like the cast of young adults. The movie featured quite a few actors who mainly did TV shows before and/or after this movie, such as Jared Padalecki and Danielle Panabker. The guy who played Jason here, Derek Mears, was awesome. Perfect casting, he gave Jason serious pep in his step. My favorite character though was Trent, played by Travis Van Winkle. The most entertaining douchebag character in all of horror movies. What an arrogant prick, but I love him! The movie is a little generic and part of the crowd of 2000s slasher movies, but it also pays homage to the franchise well and essentially brings the franchise back to basics. Back to square one. After Freddy vs. Jason, dialing things back was the right move.

Huh. Myself and the people I went with all loved it. A couple pretty corny parts, but overall we were all very satisfied and are excited for the next chapter.

I watched Final Destination: Bloodlines at home the same night after getting back from 28 Years Later. It was just so-so for me. The opening scene and

were the best parts. Other than that.... just so so. Maybe my expectations were too high after so long, and also probably desensitized to a lot of it from having seen all of the others in the franchise. The

Little Miss Sunshine - I forgot to talk about it in the previous post. I absolutely love this movie. I hadn't seen it in over 10 years, but it holds up perfectly well. A superb balance of drama and comedy, touching on serious subject matter and depicting a dysfunctional family better than most movies. Very real, very heartfelt, it's a feel-good movie in the end and is one of the best examples of Fox Searchlight's great eye in indie darling movies. A super strong cast too, each member of the family were very entertaining. It's hard to a pick a favorite, especially when the performances are very different. There's the jackass dad with a nice redemption arc, played by Greg Kinnear. The burdened, but very strong mom, played by one of my favorite actresses, Toni Collette. The mostly silent, but still highly performative teen son, played by Paul Dano. Seriously, this character could've easily been the worse, a total crash and burn, but Dano did a fantastic job. He's also the most relatable character, I knew someone like that character, and I even have similar behavior patterns. It's a very specific character, so it's crazy how familiar it was to me. Probably the biggest star in this movie at the time was Steve Carrell, and this was an early example of how effective he is at playing a dramatic role. It's still comedic at times and you can tell that it's vintage Carrell, but it suits the movie. The grandfather was completely outrageous and hilarious, a well-deserved Oscar win for Alan Arkin., Finally, there's Abigail Breslin, who was fantastic. She was the glue that kept the family together. No complaints, no nitpicks, I think this is a flawless dramedy. It makes me feel all warm inside.

It's not on Netflix with 1, 2, 3 and 5 - could they not figure it out because it's not titled "Final Destination 4"?

Probably the most mediocre of the ones I've watched so far, though the obvious favourite death in this one was the racist.

Don't think I'd seen this one before. Bringing the creepy guy back was good, having him change the premise was hmmmm. Didn't like the Tom Cruise-looking guy much, but I guess the massage death was the most entertaining.

I watched Wolf of Wall Street last... hadn't seen it before. I pretty much stopped watching movies in 2010... But this was really good, I laughed out loud while by myself at least five times during this movie. I just assume most people have already seen it, otherwise, get ready to laugh, funnier than most comedies.
