Hello GbaTemp

I was planning to buy a Nintendo Switch next month, just in time with the cfw but after looking at several threads I am afraid that I’ll buy a Non-hackable Nintendo Switch and that even the Switches that are sold now already could contain revised hardware. Is that true? And if I will wait till next month, would it be possible that I’ll be buying a revised Nintendo switch? And if it is already revised as of now, how do notice that?
Thanks in advance.

There's no real way to determine when the new revision starts shipping until people start reporting that they have them. So it could happen next month or next week, no one knows. Best bet is sooner the better if you want to be able to hack it when cfw is released.

Your best bet would be to buy a new one from Ebay. I picked one up the other day that came with the guarantee. Basically some woman's son had bought her one for her bday for 'him to use too'. She thought it was a waste of money but as they couldn't return it, she stuck it on Ebay and included a pic of the serial number from the box. A spot of searching around for the serials and firmware revisions and I found it was last November / December's stock on 3.2 so I bought it. Message a few of them. So long as the firmware is around there, I'd say you're safe. But time is limited at the moment as if it's on 5, you don't know what Nintendo have done in that firmware and whether it's one of the newer Marikos.

Wildguess here: middle June. We should do a poll, let's see who really guess a date xD

What’s the fastest way to find out I got a new one? Are there some hints on the box? I am asking this because Some stores don’t accept opened packages.

That's still a mystery. But I can assure you that if a new rev. is released, you will see forums and Twitter flooded with the news. So if you start seeing that kind of news, just skip retailers and go straight to eBay. Once you have it in your hands, just try to launch any of the exploits, and if it works, it means you're in the old version :P

Do you think the serial numbers on the new revisions will be the same as the old ones? :/
I will buy one Nintendo Switch tomorrow, and I'm afraid that I MIGHT get the new revisions, even though the chances of that is like 0.0324% :p

Yes probably what it changes is what it says in the back on the switch "hac....."but you are safe for now , only consoles with 5.x.x started to pop up so it dependes how much you want to wait 1.0.0 a few days, 2.x-3.x a few weeks or 4x-5x few months

There's still the serial numbers on the boxes, if you have a retail store nearby. There's even a thread with a good amount of serial numbers to compare to. That got me a 2.3.0 console a few months ago. So, when in doubt people could fill said thread with new information.

if you can afford it now, buy it now. thats about all there is to it.
note that homebrew and hacking on the switch is kind of a real hassle compared to say, the 3ds

As far as i can remember, there really is no seal or tape on the switch box. so as long as the store took it back "as new, Unopened" really no way to tell the difference.

Buy one from Gamestop next month, if you get a revision, just return it and try another Gamestop or store. I doubt the revisions will be here next month, because logistics, and there being already tons of Switches out in the wild!

Does gamestop allow you to return consoles that you've opened?

I bought mine from GameStop and like another user said above, there's no sticker sealing the box to show it's even been opened. So I don't think you'd have a problem buying a new one and returning it as "unopened" as long as you keep all the plastic and don't bang it up.

But how do we compare the serial number with the thread we have in this forum? I tried for instance this one I just found in Google, and I can't even figure out which version this is since it isn't in the list :/
Which version is this one I found in Google, and how so I know that :O
Is it 1.0.0 since the first number is 100?
