Hardware laptop mouse doesnt work anymore

So, my mother's laptop tactil mouse doesnt work anymore.
when she try to move it, it often goes in another direction.
also, when she tap on the tactil mouse (not on the button), the mouse moves a lot and it doesnt do a click like before.
buttons are fine, it's just the tactil portion of the mouse, if anyone can help, please reply

Try to clean it with a soft cloth and water then try again.

Reason of this suggestion: had the same issue on my older laptop.

go with a hard hare brush around the touchpad, cause even a piece of sand between the touchpad an the cover of your laptop can disable the touchpad from functioning.
