How much money do you have?
I tent to see you around here less lately. And by lately i mean in the past year or so. Ive been here for a while I guess. Are things going well IRL?
Apart from the rather nasty dose of flu I've had over the last week, life is going pretty good actually! Met a great woman, start studying for a BA in Philosophy and Psychology in Feb next year, and things are just good in general. Could do with a job still, but can't have everything I suppose! Once I get underway in the BA, I reckon a job will be easier to find.
Hey Dave. How the hell are ya, mate?
I think it's rather sad that our newest members haven't gotten the chance to know you as well as we did back in the ought-years.
You're a damn fine fellow, and still somebody I'm proud to call a friend and mentor.
The feeling is entirely mutual my friend! I'm still looking forward to the day I get to shake your hand in person and share a drink or two.
Tell us how things are going with you and your lovely lady! (From the little I know of her I like her, by the way. Hope all goes well with you two. )
It's going great mate! I've never met a woman I've felt so comfortable with, and thought so alike too. I'm hoping to get a job closer to where she is and move up there as soon as I can. The only spanner in the works is that her parents are fundamentalist Christians, the kind that don't celebrate Christmas and where everything they do revolves around their religion. They even brought a pastor in to speak to me in the hopes of convincing me of the god of Abraham's existence and that I'd misunderstood the Bible. Didn't go too well for the pastor.
In the face of so much idiocy in the world (religious, political, et cetera) how do you remain optimistic about our world?
I'm not quite right in the head.
Nah, past experience shows me that people are, for the most part, good. Social pressure, corporate pressure, political pressure, propaganda, religion, and the like all serve to keep people pre-occupied and scared. Put enough fear and pressure on people though and instead of breaking them, you cause them to stand up and fight regardless of what may happen to them. It's already starting to happen globally, as you can see by the Occupy movements and other protests that governments are trying to keep hidden. Plus, as history evidences, it only takes a small percentage of strong and determined people to change things.
What do you think about the new forum software? Don't sugar-coat this.
Actually I don't mind it. I doesn't seem to pop out like the old forum does, like it doesn't feel as bold and solid. Give it time in the hands of people like Costy and tj though and it'll be a blazing bit of kit like the old one.
Did you find anything you liked in the music I sent you?
Loved it all to be honest with you! Lake Street Dive are fantastic, love the sound and the singers voice is incredible. She reminds me of a sober Amy Winehouse! FAROFF are amazing as well. Such clean remixes, loved the Joan Jett/Beatles/Cypress Hill one especially. Oh, it's also the first time I've heard a version of Lady Gaga I can actually listen to!
What are the main issues that we as a world need to address immediately?
Religion, especially those that worship the god of Abraham, and corporatism. The abolishment of religion should be one of the highest of our priorities though. It's dangerous for a number of reasons. It allows people to be easily led, teaches people to be apathetic towards suffering, leads people to believe that there's an overall plan that's unchangeable, teaches people to look forward to death more than life, teaches people that belief is greater than evidence, that magical thinking is acceptable. There's just so many reasons it would take an entire thread just to explain it! lol The American health care system and their irrational attitude towards all things socialism is a good example of why corporatism is dangerous, and I think religion helps with that.
Is the UK becoming more like the US, or vice versa?
Sadly, it's the UK becoming more like the US. It's breaking my heart to be honest.
Do you use Skype? If you do, message me with the name you use. We have some excellent groups and conversations that you'd be welcome in.
I do, but to be honest I spend most of time chatting to Sadaf on it. If you give me a few days notice though it'd be cool, would love to take part.
Do all philosophers have an "s" in their names?
lol It would appear so. I think the more pertinent question though is do all philosophers have THC in their system?
Who the fuck let us get so old?
Fuck knows, but it definitely ain't right! I've been denying the whole ageing thing, but after taking 5 days to start getting over a flu I think I'm gonna have to hold my hands up to being an old cunt!
Is there any modern comedy worth spending time watching/listening to?
To be honest I fucking love The Big Bang Theory! A good standup I was introduced to recently was Jim Jeffries. There's some good stuff out there, it's just few and far between these days.
Could you see me riding
this?
(The beautiful thing about not having kids or a wife is that I just might get to)
Holy fuck YES! I think it captures you quite well to be honest, specially if you were to float a foxes tail off it!
That's all for now, but there will probably be more later.
Take care, my friend.
Cheers my friend, they were great questions! Sorry if my answers seem a little confused, my brain is still a little treacle like from the flu. Look forward to more if you've got 'em!
