Gaming Kirby Wii Home Menu Freeze

Hello, whenever I insert kirby wii into my wii while on the home menu, the screen will turn black and say disk read error before I even go to the disc channel or launch the game. What would cause a problem like this? Is this a problem with the ios I have installed?
