Does 358/2 days and Chain of Memories (granted,it was on the PS2 but on the GBA first) ring a bell?
I doubt I need to explain.
Anyway, this will probably be a sequel to the events of Coded and KH2. After Mickey sends that letter, they follow his instructions, Xehanort intervenes, etc, etc.

When has a Nintendo console (actually, handheld) ever been used for a true-story game?
It's gonna be filler and you know it.
It's gonna be a GOOD filler, it's the story that will lead up to KH3, so that very much says everything about the importance of this title Dream Drop Distance.

After years of side stories, it looks like Nintendo gamers are going to be getting a major entry in the Kingdom Hearts series. Kingdom Hearts 3D, now in development for 3DS, will connect directly to Kingdom Hearts III, series mastermind Tetsuya Nomura revealed in a recent Famitsu interview.

The connections include both gameplay systems and story elements. On the gameplay side, the game will show some of the evolutions we can expect for KHIII. On the story side, Nomura said that it's possible the KH3D story will directly lead into the story of KHIII.[/p]

Will this convince you all that it's not a side story? .-.

No, it won't. Haters will always hate.

It has new worlds, new gameplay mechanics, and a new story. It has been confirmed to be developed by the Osaka team at Square Enix (they did BBS). And Nomura himself has said the story is on par with a numbered title and given the same effort in relevance as KH1, 2, and BBS. The story is said to set up the events of KH3 and lead directly into it.

So, with all the info we have, it's about as relevant as any of the numbered main games and BBS. They've never been so adamant about it as they are here. They were pretty clear that the other Nintendo KH games are not as relevant as this or others.

I should mention that i don't think it will release this year. Well into 2012 would be my guess. It always takes them forever with these games. Birth By Sleep had been in development more than 3 years before it was released in Japan. Take also at least 4-6 months for it to be translated as well. We may not even get it until 2013. They're still working on the basic gameplay mechanics such as Riku's wall jump.

whatever it's going to be, i just hope that non-fans like me can get into it without playing the others
i'm not much of a disney fan...but kh-days on the ds wasn't that bad

Have you played the other ones? Because seriously, you really forget you're treating with Disney characters once you get into the game.

Also, you guys say "filler" when what most non-numbered games do is tell stuff about the story. Seriously, the only true filler game is Coded.

Actually, there's still a lot of filler even in the side games besides Coded. Coded is totally useless to the entire plot for 95% of the time besides the final part (and what was added to ReCoded). It's the definition of filler. But other games in the series do contain a lot of filler that has nothing to do with anything and is just padding.

Most of Days, though i found it interesting, is fluff. I found it cool to read the dialog and grow closer to the characters at least, but it's quite drawn out.

Chain of Memories is also mostly useless. Everything that happens in Castle Oblivion is cool and relevant, but virtually everything that happens during the Disney worlds is useless and has no bearing on anything. And that's something like at least 75% of the game or more.

Other than those, the games have generally been pretty relevant. Birth By Sleep was a very good step in the right direction away from filler-based games. KH3D looks to follow the same path and bring in some new worlds as well.

I agree to what granville, also good to see someone agreeing that it's an important title

that's what i'm saying
i haven't played any other kh games, i don't feel like emulating games like those atm
many ppl told me that kh-days' story will be a mess if i haven't played the older ones, it wasn't that much of a mess in the end

Coded isn't exactly a filler because it's a cross platform game meant to take a Kingdom Hearts experience to celphones without forcing eveyone to play a cell phone game to understand the main series story.

It recreates KH1 story in it's own way since it was suposed to be a bonus, a KH on your cellphone, not part of the mainstream games or compromising it's storties... It should be considered more like a spin-off maybe, especially since there are different kinds of gameplay on it.

It's just that the DS remake brought it closer to the main series, and with that, under the same demands and expectations, story wise (which it fails to deliver).

I don't see what being a cross platform of cell phone game has anything to do with the game not being filler. It's filler because it's 95% useless to the main continuity. Only the very ending has any real relevance to the plot, especially the secret ending added to ReCoded (which sets up KH3D). The entire game could not exist and few people would notice. I personally found the gameplay pretty fun, but that doesn't change the fact that the story is thrown together and mostly worthless. It's considered by even the fans as bad in terms of story (though ironically praised for some of the most interesting and fun gameplay in the series).
