Goal : To be able to play backups.

Just purchased a new switch. Unsure if it's one of those "ipatched" models. I tried to compare the serial to the ones on the thread but unsure if it's patched or not.
Serial # : XAW40011_____
Firmware : 4.1.0
Region : USA

  • Have no preference for SX OS or ReiNX.
  • I haven't linked my NNID, and have 0 intentions of playing online. Only wish to install updates / dlc's.

rawnand,boot0/boot1 and DUMP eMMC SYS Contain the imported NAND files. b4 you do anything and save them in a safe place.also do not forget to dump your keys using biskeydump.bin.

First of all, do you have a jig to get into RCM? If so, check and make sure that you can actually run payloads and didn't get a unit with new ipatches (although judging by your serial number, you should be fine).
After that, MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR NAND USING HEKATE. I cannot stress this enough. If you manage to fuck up your NAND in any way without physically damaging it, you can save yourself by just reflashing your NAND with your backup.
From there, it's preference as to what CFW you should use.

Personally, I'd say use ReiNX with tinfoil for NSP games and wait for XCI support.

Well based on the switch serial thread your boned for now and won't be able to do anything till a new workarounds comes out

https://gbatemp.net/threads/switch-informations-by-serial-number.481215/
From the post:
XAW1009XXX and above definitely patched

Your two choices
1) wait for the work around, tx says they have one but we have no eta on when it will be available
B) return it and buy a used one that is still vulnerable

But then it also shows this:

Serials beginning with XAW7:
XAW70017X and below are safe to buy
XAW70018X not safe to buy, probably patched
XAW70019X and above definitely patched

That is what's confusing me. Nothing about XAW4.

The only thing that can tell you if it's patched for sure is trying to run a payload, but AFAIK the first number after XAW refers to which production line it's a part of, and I've seen 1, 4, and 7, and 7 was the first one where a patched switch showed up. So switches with XAW1 or 4 should be okay, but I'm not sure.

It's easy to check. Just get into RCM and set up the SD card with Hekate. Inject the payload. If it works, you're good. If not, return and try again

Great, thanks. How about nsp files? I know they are a ban risk, but if I have no intentions to play online, should I be concerned? Am I still able to download updates / dlc's for the game(s)?

Oh good catch, didn't notice that. Like said I would do the quick test and check for sure. Hardest part I see getting your switch to boot into rcm, I found the tinfoil method the easiest for this till I got a more perminant method.

I got my switch in July and it wasn’t patched, my serial starts with xaw700164, I thought mine would have been patched based on the time I got it. Just test a payload to find out if it’s patched, if you don’t have a jig get it from ebay. You should have like 30 days to return switch if it’s patched.

There's 2 types of bans:
If you get a normal ban you lose access to online features in games as well as the eshop with this ban you can download updates and you can technically download DLC but because of not being able to access the eshop you'll have to buy them from Nintendos website (you can also download eshop games using this method)

But if you get Super Banned (also called a CDN ban) just like the normal ban you won't be able to access online features in games and the eshop, but you also won't be able to download anything from CDN meaning you won't be able to download games, game updates, DLC, and firmware updates from Nintendo. This ban is generally associated with downloading from CDN using unofficial methods (specifically freeshop)

Hope this helps :)
