Before you do anything with your Wi-Fi, check to make sure you can use RCM payloads with your Switch. If your Switch is hackable using the RCM exploit, then it doesn't really matter if you update, since the RCM exploit cannot be patched. Personally, I like using the paperclip method to install AutoRCM. You do not need to buy SX OS.

Currently, however, custom firmware is not compatible with 7.0.0, so 6.2.0 is the highest version that is safe to be on. You can update to 6.2.0 offline using ChoiDujourNX. Updating using ChoiDujourNX will also prevent your fuses from being burnt, allowing you to downgrade later if you want to, as long as you keep AutoRCM installed.

if you update online right now there's little support for the newest update. If you need to be on higher fw use a game because it will update to a supportable fw. You do not need an SX dongle for anything.

Some people are paranoid and believe Nintendo might be more likely to ban you if you post your serial number to GBATemp and talk about hacking your Switch. It's good practice though not to post personally identifiable information.

I'm not saying I agree with it, but it's theoretically possible. It's always good practice not to post personally identifiable information online.
