Does anyone know what firmware the Japanese version of the Hyrule edition N3DS LL is on? It came out last week so I imagine the firmware might be different from that in other regions.

That's incredibly lucky of you to pick up a new console that doesn't have 10.4 yet. Are you planning to downgrade it?

Note:
According to Chinese downgraders, initial 9.9.0-26J and 10.3.0-27J have higher brick rate than Nintendo upgraded 10.3.0-28J.
Dunno about the reason.

I strongly suggest hard-backing-up your SysNAND before any downgrade.

Well, you can always just get it nand modded. It's been confirmed that you can still downgrade a 10.4/10.5 console. You just need a nand mod to do it. :D

So even if it was 10.4/10.5 it can still be downgraded. Even if it's 10.3 a nand mod would help because if you soft-brick you'd be forced to update to 10.5 via safe mode menu.

I was just going to wait for Gateway's next update and lay low for a bit to see if their downgrade method is stable/what other people have to say about it.
