@epu708: I have been burning and reburning already. Could it be the DVD (Verbatim) or my DVD writer ? My burner is about a year and a half.
hm...
your case is definitely is a bad burn. have you burn another game using dvd from this roll? is it working ok? maybe you can try new verbatim dvd-r from another roll/pie (or just buy 1 disc) and re burn it. don't waste another dvd from the same set.
and about your drive, how many dvds have you burnt? 1 1/2 year could be considered old if you've burnt a lot like >500.

Hello,
I've got a question.
I've got a JAP Wii with update 3.2J.
I've got a Wiikey with update 1.9s.
If I put the original JAP disc of Super Smash, run the update, then play with the original US disc of Super Smash do it will work?
I don't want to download this game I want to buy it and I don't want to use those programms to modify the game.

Thanks you for helping me and sorry for my bad english, I speak French.
no, you can't. you have to remove update from SSBB US.
The only reason updating from SSBB JPN is to let WBB SSBB US to run on ntsc-J system.
You must not run SSBB US update.
so for financial reason, just buy SSBB JPN and play it as it is (if you really want to buy a original copy).

@epu708: Hmn... i just bought my Wii and i have only started "intesive" burning lately. Only SMG has this problem. My other 10 games does not have this problem. All are burnt using Verbatim DVD-R and using the same burner.

Does the read error alway happen in the same place for the two dvds you made?

To be sure about the burn, you could use Dvdinfopro or another tool like that (e.g. Nero cd-dvd speed, or whatever), do the PiPo testing, and check the results.

Errr.. different places.

And everytime once it happens, i will eject it and then place it back in again and it will play fine for about 5 mins then the error will appear again.

weird case indeed. I thought strange DRE only happens on SSBB.
DRE on SMG... 3 factors: iso, dvd-r, burner.
If dvd-r and burner are fine. then I want to ask how you got your iso.
Considering your flag (my neighbor), did you buy it or download?

woah, difficult case.
any solution from others who read this thread?
is there any chance his iso is broken and need re download?

Since your other 10 games work flawlessly, I'm not sure what is the problem. dvd should be ok, burner ok too. If re download is last option for you, why don't you ask your friend burn it for you? tomorrow is saturday. i'm sure you are free.

If as he said the game is stopping at different places there's no chance it is the ISO he's using, it's got to be a bad burn. As I said, just check it with the programs I mentioned to confirm it.

Hi people,

I finally managed to get my SMG US to start.

But after play the game for about 20 minutes, i got the message

" The Game Disc Could not be read. Please read the Wii Operation Manual for more information "

Is it due to bad burn ? I have tried 2 DVDs already.

I am using Verbatim DVD-R burnt at 8x and Verbatim DVD-R burnt at 4x. Both also have the same problem.

I say-
its your disc lens on your wii
a generic cleaner outta do the trick
smoking/pet/dust enviroments are apparently to corse,
but also reading dvd-r's isnt actually healthy for the wii

Okay, so i have a JAP wii, but have never played jap SSBB - After i replace the update.inf is ther anythign else i need to do?
nope, unless yours is d2ckey then you need to burn with layer break.
oh okay thanks, by the way my iso has a different md5checksum (to the one posted in the SSBB on a single layer dvd thread). Does that mean its definately a bad dump, or would a different dump might be the reason to the different checksum?

Just wondering, why DVD-R is not healthy ?

LOL, reading any dvd-r is absolutely not healthy since all console are designed to play their own medias.
But what can I say, I play my games through back-ups.

the problem is not -R or +R
it's the media itself.
if you want "ideal state" for optic, you must buy original.
So don't bother with that problem. we modded our wii for a reason=>play back-ups

for -R and +R, usually ppl use dvd-R for compatibility issue with wii.
there are threads and wiki for list of compatible dvd brand.
so far the best is tayo yuden, runner up should be mitsubishi. verbatim disc is manufactured by mitsubishi CMIIW. if you use dvd identifier or dvdinfopro, you can see verbatim disc code.

conclusion: use verbatim dvd-r made in singapore or taiwan

Ok, but just for information if I run the US update what will happenned?
Bricked Wii? Duplicate Channels? Unlaunchable game?

you will get a semi-bricked wii(cannot access wii settings) if your wii is not 3.2j yet
otherwise, duplicate channel
