Things to try:

1. Remove your save file
2. Delete Smash and use DZ Tinfoil and nut server to install Smash and the update.
3. Redownload Smash from a different source

It's either a corrupt smash nsp or can also be a corrupted save.

You can do it from the system settings in save data management.

It FINALLY worked with 5.0, base game + 5.0 only, the weird thing is that none of my progress is gone.

My huge fear now is, should I get the DLCs?

Hey there, I honestly don't see a clean DLC dump anywhere, in a while I think they might finally get a good dump, but same thing happened to me just from trying to install a Sans Mii Costume DLC...
