iSmart Premium Source Code and SDK V1.01 available
New flash cart goes open source.

The iSmart DS team have released some source code for the iSmart premium kernel under what appears to be the "Artistic License" and the GPL (unknown revision)- more on the project homepage.
Assuming you can build it (RVDS 4.0 is the chosen development environment) it means you can build your own loader and add things/change things at a source code level. It was however a similar action that lead to the creation of AKAIO (the third party loader for acekards and considered by most to be one of the best loaders going) and similarly could help with the porting of wood r4 if you were so inclined. What happens from here is up to the developers out there but this is the first step- others can audit the code for themselves but looking around it does not have the most comments and those that exist are not always in English.

Thanks to Mbmax for the heads up.

In other words they are incapable of producing their own OSMenu and so want a 3rd party to do one for them, so they no longer have to rely on the EZ-Flash team.

Of course, that isn't much different from what Acekard are doing at the moment...

We will continue to provide our own version of kernel and firmware support. The open source and SDK is for the developers who are interested in developing their own versions of kernel and UI on iSmart Premium.

Don't think of this in a negative way.

actually it is. see the only acekard firmware thats open source is acekard RPG firmware. Normmat Got the Acekard 2 firmware line from the acekard team, but not everyone has access to it just a select few. In this case they will continue to produce there own menu while allowing anyone else to do the same, and perhaps even combine features in Unofficial firmware with official firmware allowing community development and vice verse.

Depending on how homebrew developers take advantage of this source code, I might buy this flashcart. Looking forward to see Wood, AKAIO, or something new being ported into this flashcart.

o.0 lol what is wrong with you people xD. Who wants a port of AKAIO or WoodR4, there are better things that could be done! Wouldn't it be cooler to have a completely new firmware rather than some clone? If I had coding knowledge, there is no way I would want to just mimic the AK2 (maybe moonshell2...but that is a different story xD).

Since the kernel for the iSmart is currently pretty much the EZVi 3.0 ob1, does that mean that the source code has for all intents and purposes been released for the EZVi as well? o.O

there are no sources for GamePatch_ITCM.a & SDsavelib.a. so this is not true opensourcecode project like wood.

Thanks for the news on GBAtemp FAST6191.

@z.g : why do you need those sources ? you want to get into flashcart business ?

I think it's quite normal that they protected a little some part of the kernel.
Now i doubt a lib is a problem to reverse for guys like Normmatt.

of course it a not a big problem. but says that something opensource then some part not — not a good approach.

I mean if words "open source" are not right, how do you call that then ?
You can find libs in so much open source project, why this one should be different so we can't call it open source ?
