I realized that DBI's last English release was 658, which was released year and a half ago. I just set up CFW on my Switch, so all of my software is up-to-date (Hekate 6.2.2, Atmosphere 1.8.0); will the DBI 658 be functional still if I were to install it on my Switch? I currently have DBI 749 installed and of course everything is Russian that it's incomprehensible :gun:

I'm using DBI 658 for FTP installs and it works. All games installed are playable so far. I don't know about USB.

I still am on DBI 658-en and it works fine, unlike Tinfoil which broke for me every single time I updated HorizonOS.

It however fucking sucks that politics had to get in the way of such a good title installer, so many new releases that non-Russians are missing out on.

Despite several bugs, as far as I know 658 works just fine if installing nsps/xcis is all a person is using it for. It's unfortunate that the devs dislike of some English speaking people carried over into his work. Not all English speaking people are bad people just like not all Russians are bad people. Imo they should leave their personal issues with others out of their app.

So is it just a fat L if you can't speak Russian when you try to use DBI?

No. There are translations here and on the unofficial DBI github page. You can also use Google Translate with your phones camera. But once you get used to where things are you wouldn't really need it anymore unless an update changed wording/terminology and/or the order of menus.

Why would you use sloooooooooooow FTP installs instead of MTP Responder/USB?

Does anyone do anything else with DBI except for pressing "X" as soon as it starts up? That's the only thing I ever use. Sure, the "clean up orphaned files" option is nice to purge all of the error logs and such, but I can do the same with NXShell if I really wanted to.

Personally, I could care less about the language. Russian, Chinese, Egyptian Hieroglyphs, Hebrew, or whatever else makes little difference to my usage of the program. And yeah, having an english version would be nice, but changes little about the functionality of the program.

Some folks are trying to minimize the amount of times their stuff gets plugged in and out, to save some wear on the USB port I guess. Additionally, some folks are also not in a hurry and don't mind things taking an hour or two. Maybe their computer can't charge the switch properly, so they have to have it docked and charging. Oh well.

Just caught up with the dbi's dev intentions. I'm using it in English, but it's not my first language. If I knew earlier, I would already be on somethng else. Stop immediately using software where a dev threats to brick your console.

It's just a joke, my man!.. Don't be so serious. :grog:There are 0 threats to our consoles.
I don't know, same situation happened with rinnegatamante and PS Vita. There was a threat, I uninstalled everything that he ever released. Rebuilding reputation is hard and a threat is not a joke to me. It's like doing something bad nowadays and then saying that I was just joking. He lost my trust and my good word about him. Like I said in other topic, it's linguistic racism and pure discrimination if he doesn't realise what he's doing. On top of that I have no idea how can you joke about bricking someone's device/property. Unthinkable what one can write nowadays and not being called properly out for it. Just use alternative from people who share their knowledge, tools and final products in good faith.

It really was, I said almost the same thing not knowing what's going on. About actions, DBI not being an open source project, no one can know if there's some trigger or not. I won't take any risk, I switched to something different and that's what I'll recommend to do now. Additionally, it doesn't have any essential function that can't be substituted with something else. It's was convenient to have everything in one, but as things are, it was and that's the end of this software for me.

From words to action, remember.

DBI truly is the best installer for NX in the world rn, IMO.
So you prefer to be reactive rather than proactive? That is how we get disasters like 9/11 or the OSH act passed because people didn't prevent the tragedy before it occurred. Heck, even something like exFAT is a more tangible analogy because people always insinuate it has no issues until it happens to them. Also the moderators of this very site has a warning for DBI because of what duckbill said. And DBI is not the best installer because it could not install an update for Tears of the Kingdom unlike TinWoo. TinWoo installer truly is the best installer for the Switch because it has no drama.

lmfao are we actually comparing dbi with 9/11 now

by the way tinwoo was literally the result of drama

anyway

atmosphere comes with "haze" which does the mtp, so if you want you could replace dbi with that and you don't need to use dbi

unless you need other mtp functions, dbi has the save data access for example while haze only lets you access sd card

@mathew77 Don't be mad, we're all here looking out for each other and helping each other as much as we can. Most of us aren't developers, we're counting on them. If you can't trust one and even if moderation is saying the same thing, then there has to be some truth in it, right? Final decision is up to you, but take under consideration everything that has happened. Don't take it as a joke. No one wants a paperweight, because of one application that has a really good substitute. We're just end users here. I remember from PS Vita times:

https://www.reddit.com/r/VitaPiracy/comments/55farx/community_warning_there_have_been_two_separate/
https://www.reddit.com/r/vitahacks/...void_the_decrypted_harry_potter_vita_game_as/

Doesn't have to be a game, it might be a homebrew. Those things are real and it's not just a story, so that's why everyone should be careful and think for themselves if it's really worth to take the risk.

Well I don't know, but does Haze let me install titles over MTP? If so, then I can really stop using DBI completely. I just recently got set up with Tinfoil and my home PC, and it seems to be working reasonably okay. I should make a homebrew app that, when opened, deletes the atmosphere error log folder, and exits. That would replace the other function I still use DBI for.

you really dont need dbi for mtp installs when you already have tinfoil

just connect your switch to your pc while tinfoil is running and enjoy, mtp is enabled by default

use the alternatives, almost all code on DBI is «borrowed» from other homebrew, the forward creation code is from Switch NSP Forwarder , better installers are available like TinWoo, the MTP connection is on Haze, or even replaced by using FTP SRV Daemon which is a great FTP Daemon and installer. For SaveGame handling you can use the great JKSV.

All of them are open source so you can be sure what is happening on your console.
