I'm trying to clear out space on my harddrive and I've had this file on my computer for a while now taking up 1.9GB. It's called AA283FullInstaller_BitTorrent.exe

When I try and delete it, it says it's being used by another program but it doesn't seem to be after looking at my Task Manager. So is there a way in which I can force it to delete, whether or not it's supposedly being used?

If not, any ideas on how I can solve this?

If it helps, for some reason the file's name is coloured blue

the fact that it's blue means it hasn't been used in a while, don't pay an attention to that. now to solve ur problem, get gipo@utilities. its an awesome program that can delete any file. though iunno if its free or not, i lose track with my programs xD

EDIT: it should be this: http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Utiliti...eUtilities.html

(download at ur own risk of course)

black = normal

blue = compressed

green = encrypted

UNLOCKER should allow you to delete it ...my guess is you have some kinda download manager that stores its cache and this is whats locking it if the manager is running in the task bar!

I tried the gipo@utilities deleting so I'm gonna restart my laptop now and see if it's worked.

Edit: Tried it once and it seemed to duplicate itself into My Documents where it wasn't before but I managed to delete that one so it's all gone now. Thanks for the help and quick reply =D

The best way to force delete a file is, first unplug your computer from its cables, open your window, throw it out the window. There, you forced deleted it. XD

But yeah theres programs that does it and they already gave you good examples of one.

Have you tried making that particular file "read-only" yet?
I've not run into this problem often, but on those rare occasions this has made the suspect file deletable about 65% of the time.

(right-click on the file->properties->check 'read only')

It's easier than downloading a program specifically to delete a file.

Hard way:
In windows load up openedfiles viewer:
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/opened_files_view.html
Find what is causing the issue and close that.
now delete.

Easy way:
Bartpe preferably but most linux distros can write NTFS these days. Boot one from CD, mount disc (if in linux), delete file.
Safe mode should also work.

See also compression definitions from kobykaan above.
