You can install games to the hard drive but you still need your retail disc to play them. It just makes the games run smoother and have less load times and stuff. Simply put, you can't play backups of PS3 games yet.

I've heard that the games themselves have been dumped, but with no usable hack yet there's no way to play them.

oh well space really wouldn't be much of a problem cuz i put a 1tb sata hard drive in it.. so kind of disapointed that it cant play iso games

I don't know, I thought there was some type of "Install Game" option on your PS3. I don't own a PS3.

Many of the game discs gives you an option to install game information onto the PS3, so there's less loading screens and such.

You're not actual installing the game or anything.

Most of you guys dont know what you are doing Let it go is all we can do for right now until dev team announce it first. Thats simple!

No, that's a 360-only feature. The PS3 'installs' don't install the whole game, you can't chose if you want to or don't want to install it either.

Sony did their homework on this system.
Maybe it'll be hacked by the time the PS4 comes out..........
It's already been hacked. Then they took out Linux support.

is there a way to play any form of psx of ps2 back up on the ps3 in this fashion? i have a network of pcs and game consoles... ps1 downloads are easily attainable, and am very interested since some of my ps1 disks are too worn out to actually work and would really like to play them.

also what about game saves, they seem to be crackproof too... tried one for a ps3 game and it told me i could not load content that isnt mine!

So which is it? Either it will be hacked or it won't...

Yes, you can choose on most newer games there is an option.

Games like MGS4 uses game installs to cut load times, as does the PS3 version of TES4: Oblivion.
But you still need the game disc to launch it, just like the game installs that you do on the Xbox 360.

Also, if a game gives you the option to install, it's only some data, it doesn't install the full game. They should release a firmware update that allow you to copy the total content of the disc to the hard drive.
