So I have had the same problem and thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread it (lowered my heart rate significantly) lead me to the solution. The first thing to do was to buy a USB - C to USB A cable. As soon as I got mine and connected it, the computer recognized it. I was able to move from the switch appearing to be bricked. One of the things that I think made it go to this state was, I had my SD formatted as eXFat. I noticed that any time it tried to access the card it "crashed" and I had to re-do the hooking back the switch to the PC.

I bought a simple cable from my local Best Buy to get me past the problems.
I have since formatted to FAT32 and things seem to be fine.
