Hacking Is it safe to update my o3DS?

I have a CFW in my o3ds and I didn't made any update in a while. I've heard sometime ago that we shouldn't update it. Is it safe now? Is there any risks to do it so? (my system is at Ver. 11.6.0-39U)

Please provide a few more details?
Are you running B9S or A9LH? You can figure that by booting the system holding "Select" and it a version before 7.1, then you need to update to B9S to get the latest version of Luma3DS. You need the latest version of Luma3DS to use the latest updates on the 3DS.
