Pardon if this question has been answered numerous times before but I haven't been around here in quite some time here and haven't caught up with homebrew updates and such.
So I was wondering the other day can it be possible to put some .nsp files onto your thumb drive then stick it on your Nintendo switch whilst docked.
What got me to believe this was this broken feature (I can't tell whether it's a broken feature or something broken on my part xP) I spotted on tinfoil which presumably tries to access you the USB storage or whatever.

Now my question is. Has there been an app that utilizes the usb ports on the switches dock it would be cool to have access to such a feature and load and install .nsp games right off your USB drive.
Yeah sure there's USB installs over the USB type C cable but being aware of the risks of shady USB C cables out there and the harm they could potentially fry your switch if they're not the right cable, game installs off a USB drive seem a lot safer to say the least.

I'm not talking about .xci loading but using your USB drives to store games and install them to your nand or as card. But it doesn't have to be particularly limited to storing .nsp files. It can be anything from homebrew music or whatever
So guys has there been an app that installs .nsp files from the USB ports by using USB drives ever been released as of yet?

Thanks.

Only SX OS right now that support running XCI format games off HDD, knowing SciresM he doesn't support warez so I doubt we will ever see USB support coming from him, maybe someone else can make it to work with Atmosphere. Xortroll worked on a project called the FSP-USB but seem like he gave up on it.

I'm no expert, but SXOS allows you to do this. A simple workaround for Atmosphere/Kosmos/Etc in which you don't need the USB stick is that you can load a Java app called "Quark" (comes with goldleaf) on a PC after entering Goldleaf and connecting the switch with the USB cable. It will allow you to access directories on the PC as if it was a USB stick in that way.

The USB Mass Storage support in SXOS is buggy and stupid I found.. And its closed source and proprietary, so nobody can fix it. Quark/Goldleaf works well.

Yea, not at all. I've been running sx os since release and have had 0 issues at all with running games off USB. I'm not sure what there is to fix.

@AncientBoi, Yeah, believe you can do PSP games as well. But a Pi5 is much powerful in comparison.

Not sure about other models of Pi4 but the Pi 4 B with 8GBs OCed to 2Ghz handles PSP really great except like 1 game I found and it is playable it just looks bad lol Motor Storm Arctic something or other.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Other games I can have turned up to like 2X and all kinds of enhancements, Motorstorm hmmm nope 1X and no enhancements lol

I will admit that one does seem more interesting than the usual Ambernic ones, and I already liked those.

    I dread the price point.

This looks like one of their premium models, so... $150 :glare:

    To me that seems reasonable.

I mean since basically all the games are errmmm free lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean yeah sure but the specs are the same as a $50 model, it's just those pesky "quality of life" things driving up the price, like an actually working speaker, or buttons that don't melt, and stuff like that.

I think all in my Pi 4 was well north of 200 bucks 150ish for the Pi 4 the case the fancy cooler, then like 70 for the 500GB MicroSD then like 70 for the Xbox controller. But honestly it's a nice set up I really enjoy and to me was worth every penny. (even bought more controllers for 2 or 4 player games.) hmmm have never played any 2 player games yet :(
  • Veho @ Veho:
Yeah that's what I hate about the RPi, it's supposedly $30 or something but it takes an additional $200 of accessories to actually turn it into a working something.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
yes that's the expensive part lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean sure it's flexible and stuff but so is uremum but it's fiddly.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Yeah a lot of it I consider a hobby, using Batocera I am constantly adjusting the collection adding and removing stuff, scraping the artwork. Haven't even started on some music for the theme... Also way down the road I am considering attempting to do a WiiFlow knock off lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I want everything served on a plate plz ktnx, "work" is too much work for me.
  • Veho @ Veho:
Hmm, with that in mind, maybe a complete out-the-box solution with all the games collected, pacthed and optimized for me would be worth $150
